Agriculture and Mining Jobs in Britstown
A small farming town that is located in the Northern Cape province. Britstown is named after a man who settled there named Hans Brits who accompanied David Livingstone on an endeavor. The town is located at the heart of the Central Karoo and precisely halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg. A private irrigation program was initiated in 1885 by the Smartt Syndicate and was liquidated in 1954. Two dams were built and lucerne and wheat was planted. They also grazed Clydesdale horses and karakul sheep. Floods destroyed a dam in 1961, but it was rebuilt in 1964 by the government.
