Ficksburg is a town positioned at the foot of the 1750m high Imperani Mountain in Free State province, in South Africa. Ficksburg was set up and founded by General Johan Fick who won the territory in the Basotho Wars. The town is known as the asparagus region of South Africa, due to hundreds of tons of asparagus being harvested from September. There are other kinds of fruit (peaches, cherries and apples for example) that are grown in the district. Livestock is also a key industry in Ficksburg, with numerous dairy farms found in the countryside.
