Dear Sirs, I have a B.Sc. (Business Science), majoring in Finance and Accounting; have worked as a trader and sales graduate at Merrill Lynch South Africa for a year, spent 2018 travelling South America and writing a science fiction novel. I began 2019 working for a niche private equity business. My CV is attached. I believe I am suited to work as an Investment/Research Analyst since I find evaluating companies and industries fascinating. I believe that my questioning nature and determination to learn will be an asset to your company. I have diverse interests – I enjoy seeing how things are connected, such as the operating side of businesses and their core ideas and drivers. I have experience working under pressure and have learnt how to maximise my efficiency, as I traded small-cap equities for BoA Merrill Lynch. After my travels in South America I have come to the conclusion that an analyst role will be best suited to my talents – I enjoy merging my writing skills and creativity with equity market research. I have explored this interest in my previous role, where I prepared market commentary to present to my team each morning. Furthermore I would prepare sales summaries of recent research to analysts to help prepare them for roadshows. While my recent role at Adinah Capital Partners (PE firm) saw me research and write up investment committee proposals using my own market research and understanding of possible strategic opportunities. In my first role at Crux Capital, I learnt how useful valuation models can be in making effective investment decisions such as regression models that try to understand the drivers of specific stocks and sectors. I furthered my understanding in the backbones of quantitative research by using DDM and FCF models to value various companies. I deepened this understanding by updating Adinah’s investment valuation models and building a model to value their portfolio return to a benchmark of their choosing. I believe there is extensive learning potential in this position especially given how international companies will have to adapt to the changing environment - from artificial intelligence disrupting industries to facing challenges of environmental sustainability. I am dedicated to broadening my knowledge base; in evidence of this I am pursuing the completion of my CFA (I have passed CFA 1) and have written CFA 2 in June 2019 (am awaiting results). I always pride myself on taking full responsibility for my work and try hard to do an excellent job of everything I do. My experience as a scuba Dive Master showed that I am an effective in a leadership capacity, while my travels and sale positions have given me the self-confidence to effectively interact with people.
