“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.” - Kurt Vonnegut My name is Lindsay. I have always had a profound love of literature. As a child I buried myself in the fanciful Narnia, The Wonka Factory. As age became me, my love for literature never waned, I started to devour more challenging reads, I embarked on adventures to Treasure Island and across the seas in search of Moby Dick. As a young woman I found my feminine voice through the the characters of Little Women and Jane Eyre. The pain of love and death from Shakespeare. All this gave way to more contemporary books that I would fill my suitcase with when going on vacation. Through a wonderful education I was exposed to an extensive library of work ranging from biographies and historical fiction to plays and essays. For me, reading is not only my escape, but also my source of inspiration as the characters in the books and novels that I read inspire me and color the person I am. I always wanted to be part of the world of literature, perhaps even to contribute to it in some small way. My love of the English language is the fuel that inspires me to write. I majored in English at university and completed an Honors Degree in Environmental Studies. Academic research was always a corner stone of my work during both my Under Graduate and Honors degrees. I consider my final year’s thesis to be one of my greatest accomplishments. Post studies, I spent some time traveling the world. I taught English to Thai children in Thung Song (I challenge you to try to find it on a map). As such, I am inspired by diverse cultures and captivated by beautiful landscapes thanks largely to my time in Thailand. After my travels my academic side started to get restless and I started to explore the idea of going back to school. This resulted in me spending a year studying nutrition and holistic wellness during which I started my own blog discussing all things healthy, from recipes and foods to lifestyle and fitness. These concepts have seeped into my personal life and impacted how I approach life. Recently, I found myself picking up odd jobs were I would be living out this small dream of being a writer. These jobs included creating and editing a recipe book, working as a tutor marking college essays, writing travel articles and short stories for children. Perhaps there was no denying it; I was destined to be a writer. In my down time, if I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy exploring new cities and learning about the history of places. I have a deep affinity for the ocean and love all ocean based activities, diving, surfing and fishing. I have worked as a volunteer at animal shelters and calm my mind through practicing yoga. I find great joy from being in nature whether it be on hikes through the mountains or a simple walk through the small nature reserve down the road from my little cottage.
