1. Tell me about yourself I’m Luncedo Mgijima born in Pinetown, KZN raised in Eastern Cape and then came back to KZN at age 10, come from a big, loving and Christian family. I’ve always been a competitive and ambitious child being where I am today is highly due to those two attributes about myself. I’m first born and have always played the ‘’big brother’’, ‘’deputy parent’’ role and that’s moulded me to who I am today. 2. What are your hobbies and activities you participate in outside of your academics? I enjoy sports more specifically football, I write and read a lot which has lead me to participating in University Poetry Sessions. I also enjoy networking which lead me to being entrepreneurial from a very young age to my University days when I sold Justine Products and Textbooks for other students 3. Have you ever been away from home? Yes practically since I was 18 moved to Johannesburg for University also before that I used to travel a lot with school sports and camps, currently in the process to move to Cape Town for Postgraduate studies 4. Why did you choose to study Economics? I’m intrigued by the concept of demand and supply also about how the world of money and markets works having taken a gap year 2017 after discontinuing my studies I got into business and realised how much I needed to learn not just about money but about the entire value chain. 5. What is your long-term career path or career aspirations? To see myself progress to being a top employee and thrive into middle-management in 7 years of employment or less I see myself as a Senior Business Analyst for top Firms in the country. 6. How do you plan to reach these goals? By applying myself and finishing my postgraduate studies in record time whilst gaining entry level, internship and graduate programme experience 7. Do you prefer working in a team or on your own? Why? Team I feed off energy and I have a knack for teamwork and partnerships to achieve great things 8. Describe your ideal work environment in which you would be happy and motivated – E.g. busy, open-office environment surrounded by people or a quiet office space by yourself? Open-office environment would be ideal as it’s easier access to colleagues should I require assistance or vice versa 8.1 What would motivate you to perform at work? Performance based reviews and incentives on a monthly/weekly basis 9. Tell us about a time where you had to handle pressure? In my 3rd year university I had 5 modules per semester which each required tasks and essays handed in each Wednesday and Friday , whilst I was a football team member and needed to attend training and some mid-week games, I handled it by a simple timetable and prioritizing 10. How do you prioritise or plan your deadlines? Weekly basis start with the deadline closest and move along don’t leave anything for last minute take small steps/ small consistent progress to achieve the big steps/goals 11. If you could change one thing about your personality what would it be and why? Nothing not being arrogant or conceited I just think that my personality has helped me through different situations and I wouldn’t change it for anything. 12. At times you may be asked to do many things at once. Tell me how you would go about that? Plan , break-down and execute 13. What experience in life do you feel have moulded you to the person you are today? Being a first born and dropping out having to fend for myself without a qualification , also being in business and dealing with different clients 14. Do you consider yourself competitive? Why or why not? Yes I’ve always been competitive with Sports with Academics and a lot of social aspects, growing up with brothers and cousins a lot of things become competitive. 15. Tell us about a time in which you had to handle conflict? In one of the projects at 3rd year level we had to choose group leaders and I was contesting against a female friend ,I suggested a vote that ended up being equally split, I then further asked that we both be given a week to be leader and on the third week the group can vote again and so that happened I won the mini-election. 16. Tell me about a project that you led, that failed and how did you handle it? In 1st year Marketing I lead the group for a Absa Bank Branding presentation , I was looking forward to it and gave it my all unfortunately my group members weren’t on board and didn’t want to participate with the same enthusiasm and that lead to us not being part of the top ten to get to present at Absa not only that we failed the whole presentation didn’t take too kindly to it instead the next project I picked members off work ethic , and never failed another Marketing Project again. 17. How would you handle an angry call from a client? By being calm and collected and sticking to basic client-consultant protocol and being patient at all times.
