Nikita Jagarnath is a General Nursing Science graduate based in Cape Town, South Africa. She has extensive experience in both pre- and in-hospital emergency care, anesthesia and family medicine. Nikita began her career; in Johannesburg; as an Anesthetic Nurse for scheduled and emergency Orthopedic, Cardio-thoracic, Gynecology and Obstetrics, General, Maxilla-facial, Ophthalmology and Neuro- surgeries. While working in the operating theatre environment, she obtained her accreditation as a Basic Life Support Instructor (AHA), and sat on the hospital’s Resuscitation Committee. She continued to practice as a locum Anesthetic Nurse, while persuing a focus in Accident and Emergency Medicine as a shift supervisor, accredited with her ACLS (AHA) certification, and treating a variety of medical and trauma emergencies with the patient demographics ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Nikita’s proven operational, clinical and leadership abilities led to her being voted by her peers onto a grass roots initiative advocating for employees and trainees within their unit. This interest in balancing the promotion and maintenance of healthy working environments, while providing quality patient centered health care, has continued through her work beyond the hospital context. In 2019, Nikita moved to a family medicine practice, where she continued to contribute to the promotion and maintenance of quality patient care; while contributing on an operational and administrative level. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nikita has completed numerous COVID-19 courses in order to stay up-to-date with the developments of this disease; and has used this knowledge to assist with the formulation of COVID-19 policies and procedures for a leading performing arts company in Cape Town, South Africa. Nikita joined the FocusPoint International team in 2020, as a Medevac Co-ordinator, and still pursues clinical involvement with a leading HEMS provider in South Africa.
