My name is Olonathando Dlutu. I am a full time student at the University of the Western Cape. Currently I am studying a BCOM honour's degree in Economics. Like everyone else in this world, I have big dreams in terms of my career. I wish to do my Master’s in Business Administration after my degree and honours. Such a qualification will open doors for me to enter into top managerial positions in the business world. As a black female I am determined to not only reach the glass ceiling but also break it. I intend to be a force to be reckoned with and be part of the long list of powerful women in business like Indra Nooyi and Ursula Burns. Tenacity and drive are the two new skills that I developed from my academic experience in the University of the Western Cape. From my first year till my fourth year I have learnt that even if you have an assignment submission the same day as a module test, you need to keep focus and not crack under pressure. Soft skills I believe will still play a huge role in the completion of my honour's degree. I was mentor in the Peer mentorship programme in the institution I study in from 2017- 2018.Through this I have gained an ability to communicate well with different people from different backgrounds. I have great interpersonal skills which include an ability to speak, write and present myself fluently and immaculately. In 2019 I continued being a mentor however in a different programme called the EMS First Year Transitional Programme. In the programme I not only developed my interpersonal skills however also my administrative skills. I also have obtained leadership skills by being part of the newly formed media society in the University of the Western Cape. In the society, I was part of the executives in my stream which was television, which I was responsible for delegating work. I am also currently an ECO 152 tutor for the Economics department in the University of the Western Cape. Through this position I am learning how to manage time to prepare and plan.
