To whom this may concern, I am currently employed as a Production Manager at Mafube Colliery, a joint venture between Exxaro Resources Ltd and Anglo-American Coal. Over the years I have developed extensive experience in underground and opencast mining operations and overseeing the effective and efficient extraction of coal and supporting the mine value chain from pit to port. I am currently overseeing approximately 200 employees including contractors and I have managed to put systems in place to effectively monitor all surrounding activities ranging from construction to mining. I also have experience in contractor management within a project environment and I was responsible for the construction of the boxcut and haul roads as well as mining activities including topsoil and softs stripping, overburden drilling and blasting, overburden and coal removal, haul road construction and maintenance, and water management. I have excellent project management skills built upon a strong knowledge and understanding of opencast mine development, operational readiness and ramp-up. For the past two years I was a key member of the project team during the execution phase of the Mafube Life Expansion Project that enabled the mine to increase its LOM by 13+ years. I have gained experience in the acquisition and use of autonomous- ready drilling equipment, the first of its kind in the African continent, and strive to make use of the available technology to achieve a more effective and efficient mining operation within the value chain. I am able to advise and assist the Mineral Resource Management teams with development and planning decisions and the execution thereof; assist with the mine forecasting / budgeting as well reporting thereof. I am a dedicated team player who enjoys the company and support of my peers while being able to manage my priorities and work with minimal supervision. I have strong communication skills. My day-to-day job involves, but is not limited, to the following: Ensuring that health, safety and environmental standards are upheld. Coach and guide all mine employees including all contractors. Communicate with the surrounding communities of all mining activities and ensure that the mine complies with all legal limits with regards to dust, noise and ground and air vibrations. Review data, such as maps, survey reports, and geological records, and meet with engineering, maintenance, and supervisory departments to plan and coordinate mine development. Establish production targets and monitor key performance indicators. Identify solutions and implement actions to adopt best practices for mine production. Monitor work actions or work orders. Administration My analytical and problem-solving skills are exceptional. When approached with obstacles that may hinder either planning or production, I always approached problems in a logical manner to find the best solution suited for the company. Working with a large group of people with various backgrounds and skills, I have displayed the management skills i.e communication, leading, coaching, stress management, etc. to bring a group of complex individuals together and work as one team with one goal. Most of all, I am a committed professional with the skills and attributes the job requires, and a strong determination to achieve an excellent outcome for my employer. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss this more with you at an interview. Kind Regards, Jean-Pierre Lafond
