To Whom It May Concern I am Jeremy Joel Boonzaier, MSc. Biotechnology (UWC), currently employed as a Research Technician in the Post-Harvest and Agro-processing Technology (PHAT) Division at The Agricultural Research Council (ARC). My current role at ARC is to ensure the routine chemical and microbial analysis of experimental fermented beverages and products produced in the experimental cellar. I am solely responsible for the management and upkeep of the cellar laboratory and cellar laboratory budget. Recently I have contributed to the development of a newly established analytical laboratory required to render a service to external and internal clients. Prior to my current role, I was employed as an NRF intern based at ARC-Infruitec/Nietvoorbij. In this position, I developed a microbial gene bank using bacterial and yeast isolation and molecular biology techniques to identify various species and strains. This assisted the development of a rapid identification technique of yeast and acetic acid bacterium. During my academic career, my MSc. was performed in a structural biology laboratory studying proteins of interest in infectious diseases using X-ray diffraction crystallography to determine structural-function relationships based on obtained structural data and molecular modelling. Both my BSc. Honours and MSc. projects where in collaboration with research partners allowing me to apply biotechnology in differing fields. Although I never had the official title of supervisor, I mentored undergraduate students in my role as tutor and laboratory demonstrator in biochemistry and structural biology modules during my postgraduate career. I have been nominated as a mentor for three consecutive years. I have held multiple training sessions for interns and students at my current institute. I have excellent time management skills and I prefer completion of projects before deadlines. I have experience in designing standard operation protocols, with efficiency and ease. I strive to work in a manner that results in reproducible methodologies that allow for improvement. I am able to plan out workloads to optimally suit my working habits and meet deadlines well in advance where possible. I am computer literate. I have experience using various software and I am acquainted with Linux, Windows operating systems and various office applications. I am a diligent, hardworking and committed individual, which works well with others and thrive alone. I’m well suited to working in both large and small laboratories based on prior situations. I am a fast learner, good at problem-solving and can adapt quickly to new routines and environments. I would like to thank you for your consideration and I look forward to speaking with you about how I can assist to obtain your institutional goals. Sincerely, Jeremy Joel Boonzaier
