“Who am I?” I am a 52-year-old professional individual with nearly 30 years of IT related office experience, very methodical and meticulously finicky about my approach to the normal daily work duties. Every day is pre-planned, order and structured with enough spare room for any unforeseen circumstances, happenings or disasters. One of the many and countless benefits of being a mature well-educated woman is that I'm not afraid of speaking my mind in an honest and mindful way. I believe in sympathy and empathy and evaluate each person and every situation accordingly. I have an abundance amount of self-confidence, always cool calm and collected in almost any situation and possess a "can-do-anything" attitude. In 1989, I graduated from Rand Afrikaans University with a B Com degree in Information Systems as the degree was 30 years ago. I started my career as a Programmer with the company SASOL, which initially paid for my degree via a bursary. After SASOL’s retrenchment, I moved on to building hardware and getting involved with IT support. I was lucky enough to have been exposed to DOS 5 and the various very early historical software versions of Windows as well as the history of PC hardware. The IT history is one of my many well-loved work memories, and it always makes me smile when like-minded IT-geeks realises I know DOS 5 commands. Many of these commands are still useful. I do not shy away from “trivial” office jobs, and if need to be I will make time to clean the office kitchen or the lady’s wash room or sweep the office entrance floor. I can be the cable fixer or the switchboard programmer or the switchboard operator or the receptionist, very much a “JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES-AND-MASTER-OF-MANY”. As a person I like to get involved with all IT aspects of the Company. During my career I wore many hats very successfully and I have been employed as: • PC/Network Technician, with combinations of being a Desktop Technician, • Application Support Analyst and Software Application Trainer, • Server Administrator combined with IT Asset Manager and Software Licensing Manager, • Security Manager, with focus on Disaster Recovery procedures and IT audit procedures, • Software Tester / Personal Assistant / SYSPRO System Administrator, • Technical Data Consultant / Data Analyst / Business Analyst / Project Management. My attitude towards any work: "Just tell me exactly what you want done by when and I WILL MAKE SURE IT HAPPENS". My favourite saying: "The devil is in the details". I love analysing stuff, data. I always keep track of our monthly water meter reading, and discovered we have a water leak on our premise. This water leak is now in the process of being fixed, and we can claim the excess payment back from insurance. In the future, I will have to keep track of the meter readings on a weekly basis. I do not consider myself as unemployed as there are many on-line job opportunities, I make use of. It would however be beneficial to find permanent employment to receive the usual company employment benefits. During a specific job interview for a SYSPRO System Administrator's position I really wanted it became clear that I was chasing the salary. Being 52 years old I work because I meet with other people, learn from them, learn new skills, improve myself, transfer some of my many skills and I get to go to work with a happy heart knowing I can make a positive contribution towards the company and the surrounding community. During the past 18 months I also realised there are some crucial technical shortcomings in my SYSPRO support qualifications, and I have enrolled with the company SYSPRO as a Partner to achieve certain support certifications with their SLC program. At this point I have until September 2020 to finish my paid SYSPRO studies. My other favourite saying: "A picture is worth a thousand words". Since I love data analysis so much, I took advantage of the free Qlik Sense training on the WWW and there are some free certifications. In my mind data integrity, data enhancement and data quality all contribute towards the success of a Qlik Sense Business Intelligence model. I love the idea of using B.I. Tools such as Qlik Sense to display data trends, or something as trivial as "dirty raw data", by providing pictorial insights for easy informational interpretations of a company's data. Since my last retrenchment I have launched my own small business called Just Joani's Bracelet Bar where I make my own beaded bracelets. I have been making my bracelets and earrings for the past 20 years. The type of bead, its place in the bracelet composition and its colour in the combination of coloured beads I use in my final product must be perfect. It takes the highest level of Quality Assurance before I am ready to sell the finished product to my eager customers. Solopreneur, freelancer, self-employed, IT-professional-all rolled into one.
