I have always been passionate about writing, stories, motivational letters as well as reviewing my friend's CV's and their motivational letters. Knowing my passion in this field has made me want to also help other people get the jobs they desire, bursaries and scholarships by writing as well as reviewing their motivational or cover letters. I am a student who has been involved in extracurricular activities at the University in need of growth and experience outside academics. I am very passionate with giving back to communities and this has made me start my foundation called EmpowerMe which seeks to help those struggling with mental health, self positivity, self love as battling other traumatic experiences. What pushed me to starting this foundation was my need to see change around me, destigmatising against mental illnesses and using my voice to speak up for those who are shamed, bullied as well as abused. Much of it has to do with my own experience while growing up which made me come into conclusion that I am not the only one struggling and therefore it would be wiser to use my own story and experience to help those who may be going through similar experience, to assure them that there is hope, to teach young boys and girls that you can accept yourself and don't have to let society define who you are. I am currently a peer helper at NMU under the Emthonjeni student wellness which is a voluntary program meant to assist Psychologists reach out to students, since some of them find it hard to consult with a psychologist, the university came up with a way in which other students can apply for this program to assist students with personal or academic issues. When I applied, I was contacted for an interview which I did and based on the response I received, I did well. This program has helped me grow as a person, given the suicide statistics of students in South Africa it is very important for us to hold hands so to save our generation and its future. Being very passionate about research and studying diseases, I was recognised at the university where the Environmental Health society invited me to be their guest speaker to educate students on a disease of my choice. I used the situation that was happening in some universities in the year 2019 where a student passed away from food poisoning in one of the Institutions. I felt the need to educate students on Foodborne Diseases, the presentation went well and I was honoured to be invited to speak about such an important topic. While doing my research project in the year 2020 where I submitted my report and was approved and at the end of the day collecting data and report writing, I passed my research with a distinction which made me realise my passion in literature review as well as research itself. In the year 2020 we were affected by the very known global pandemic Covid-19, the Nelson Mandela university had it's own safety protocols to which students were not entirely adhering to, a zoom meeting was held with HOD's, Doctors as well as Epidemiologists in other universities and each department has to select a student to be the voice of other students in their department, I was contacted by my Head of Department to represent the Environmental Health students and it was a very informative meeting as we were given the chance to come up with solutions with the issue at hand, which was students not following the safety procedures laid by the university as this was increasing the number of cases within its premises.
