A dedicated hardworking individual that can operate both independently and within a group. I am particularly interested in the sustainable and effective conservation of existing environments and species, especially given increased population pressures and future climate change. I believe that the skills gained during my academic studies, work on Marion Island and extramural activities have equipped me to become an active member of the scientific and conservation community. I am eager to both contribute in a meaningful way to any future endeavour and to further develop my knowledge and skills. I have worked as a field biologist (Marine Apex Predator Research Unit (MAPRU) – Nelson Mandela University, South Africa) as a member of the M76 Marion Island overwintering team, with my work focussed on several marine bird species found on the island. I have completed my MSc in Zoology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa as a member of the Evolutionary Genomics Group (EGG), one of the leading molecular laboratories in Africa. My work, research, as well as undergraduate (BSc. Biodiversity and Ecology) and postgraduate (Honours BSc. Biodiversity and Ecology, MSc. Zoology) studies have helped develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of biological, ecological and conservation processes and systems. In particular, my work and research has necessitated adaptability, problem solving and responsibility as well as co-ordination amongst various parties and organizations. Through these studies as well as work experience I have gained extensive laboratory and field work experience, developed skills in scientific writing (two publications, one under review) and the analysis, managing as well as processing of large databases.
