Thank you for considering me for the position of Software Developer at your company. I’ve recently completed my bachelor’s degree in information technology (IT) with specialization in software development studying at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and hope to be a valuable asset to your company. I’m a creative thinker, a quick learner and I enjoy an intellectual challenge. When faced with a problem I persist until I find the solution to the problem. I love attention to detail, which I found is a huge benefit in software development and has made me a better software developer. I can work independently or as a member of a team and have good communication skills. I found my passion for software development in my first year of university after writing my first program and since then I knew this is the career I wanted to pursue. In my studies I have gained exposure to Java, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, R, and SQL using software tools such as Eclipse, JCreator, RStudio, sqldeveloper, Notepad++, and Oracle APEX as my development environments. During my studies I’ve learned concepts such as OO (Object Oriented) Programming, Encapsulation, Abstraction, exception handling, GUI programming, Files, Streams, and Object serialization to mention a few. I also gained knowledge in software development processes such as Agile, BDD and TDD amongst others. I’ve experienced my first year in industry as a Software Developer Intern and Graduate Software Developer at Yellowtail Software. During my time at Yellowtail Software I worked on 2 projects, learning ASP.NET MVC, C#, MongoDB, jQuery, JSON, and Bootstrap using MS Visual Studio 2017 as the main development tool and Azure DevOps as the CI tool. The environment I worked in implemented Agile methodologies, such as Scrum and XP. In my experience I’ve gained concepts such as Clean code, SOLID principles and CI which I implement in my code. Ultimately, I found that I can adapt to new technologies in a short space of time and grow from every experience.
