As a postgraduate student from the North-West University (NWU-Pukke) Potchefstroom Campus, I am currently in the final phase (February submission) of my Masters (M.Sc.) degree in Occupational Hygiene. I am an honours graduate under the department of Occupational Hygiene Research Initiative focusing on principals of basic Occupational Hygiene, Health and Safety, and principals of Toxicology. I have completed my coursework based on legislation entailing the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993) and the Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996). I have also been admitted for part-time studies in Transdisciplinary Health (M.HSc.) in Health Promotion for the occupational environment. Currently (Occupational Hygiene) my research is based on the health and safety of additive manufacturing (3D-Printing), a study funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the NWU. In 2015, I completed my studies in B.Sc. Microbiology and B.Sc. Physiology under Environmental and Biological Sciences. I have extensive knowledge in laboratory work including analytical methods pertaining to microbiological testing particularly in the food and beverage sectors, water quality management and principles of biotechnology, chemistry and biochemistry. Majoring in Physiology under biological sciences provided an opportunity to understand how poor health and safety management can affect workers as a major public health concern. Both these fields are an advantage as unique combination and a body of knowledge that lends me an opportunity to apply in the workplace. My interest has always been to protect the health of workers and the public as prevention often goes as an unnoticed yet important factor in all industries. Industries including the mining, food and beverage, automotive, aeronautical, scientific and medical were covered in terms of occupational health and safety during my undergraduate, honours and Masters studies. Managing the completion of my current (M.Sc. and/or M.H.Sc.) has gained me administrative and project management skills of which still require experience and improvement and being provided an employment opportunity in the Health and Safety field will be a great platform to acquire the experience and also apply the knowledge acquired during my studies. Furthermore, I am familiar with ISO standards relevant to Occupational Health and Safety, and was accredited with a legal knowledge certificate. With limited working experience and a need for exposure by offering the skills acquired during my studies, it is with thanks that I submit the following CV for consideration. I strongly believe that with my knowledge and current research based on legislation, I will be able to aid the company to adhere to applicable occupational health and safety standards. I am not afraid of challenges, solving problems and attending to where I am needed and beyond. It is my greatest aspiration and wish to be employed in a company where innovation is the focus and core and would love to be a part of a team where basic principles and new ideas are used to protect the health and safety of the public. I am available and ready should my application be considered with appreciation and gratitude for taking the time to consider my CV. Yours faithfully, Pearl Lekhuleni.
