The first Burger King® restaurant opened in South Africa in May 2013. It was a combined venture between Western Cape-based investment company Grande Parade Investments, and Burger King® Worldwide. Burger King® South Africa was launched in the Western Cape and there are considerations of expanding nationally. The expansion plans are said to contribute tremendously to the South African economy and create a large number of jobs for South Africans over the next five years. Since 2010, Burger King® Worldwide has belonged to 3G Capital, an international financial group that is aimed at sustainable growth.
