Incorporated in 1982, Pretoria Portland Cement Company (PPC) is the leading supplier of cement in southern Africa. The company has long been in the industry and has proved to adapt and flourish in the ever changing circumstances. In 2010 the company was listed in the Johannesburg Stock Exchange joining an elite group in South Africa and worldwide. The company operates through eight cement manufacturing facilities and three milling depots in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe producing around eight million tons of cement products each year. Furthermore PPC produces aggregates, metallurgical-grade lime, burnt dolomite and limestone. The company works to reduce energy costs by using substitute fuels and continuously explore ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency of operations. At PPC they believe in satisfying customers' needs by supplying quality products and services. PPC also consistently assists with the upliftment of disadvantaged communities by using resources from the communities in which they operate.

I must say I didn't know this page existed. Indeed PPC is a good company to work for in terms of benefits etc. but that's where it ends! The people are horrible, favouritism is rife, back stabbing is continuous and only if you are in the right "clique" will you get anywhere. The best thing I ever did was leave. The OP department was good, but then they got rid of certain people and then it just went downhill. Management doesn't care about anything except the huge incentive bonuses they can get.

PPC has great benefits. The corporate culture is toxic: certain Managers get away with ill-treating their subordinates and abusing basic human rights. HR is useless in terms of dealing with employee concerns and issues. HR doesn't keep employee appraisals, which makes you wonder how bonuses are allocated. If you're not in the 'right' clique in PPC you are doomed. If you are willing to go against your values, lie, back stab and cheat so you can provide for your family then this is the company for you. Management doesn't uphold the code of conduct of PPC.

PPC Cement, on paper is the best company to work for in terms of salary, benefits and training. However, with regards to people skills, it still have a long way to go. There's little room for movement (career advancement) because most Line Managers and Senior Managers stay in the same positions, which means: as their subordinates, either you stay on the same position for years or move to another company.

PPC Cement is a great company to work for and for career development considering the amount of time spent in training. The challenge is with some Line and Senior Managers standing in surbodinates prospects for growth where they make decision on who must take which position. If you don't do things which pleases certain individuals you can forget about your chance of being promoted regardless of your capabilities or skills. The problem within PPC is people.

A Very Good company to work for in terms of Benefits. The company have one of the best working cultures that you could find. The people are the most important resource of the company but not all of the people's needs are addressed. The company is very visionary & wants to develop its people. Not all in Management have that same view of uplifting & developing the people.
