Art Director / Creative Studio Manager

Location: Modderfontein, Johannesburg
Salary: R40k – R45k per month negotiable

About the Role:
As the Art Director, your role will be comprised of Art Direction, Project Management, Studio Manager and Staff Management.

Requirements:
5+ years’ experience as an Art Director / Creative Studio Manager
Relevant Tertiary Qualification

Duties:
Art Direction, Design:
Maintain design standards in accordance with the existing brand guidelines.
Ensure that all packaging meets international requirements for shipping to all continents for Consumer Protection Information and language requirements.
Oversee the design and creation of new brands, changes to existing brands and consistency across all items.
Quality control of all artwork including spell checking, checking of images, codes, specifications, on active projects.
Pre-production signoff on all artwork before mass production.
Marketing research for appropriate projects and briefs where needed.
Improvement to feature writing / copywriting as supplied by product development.
Hands-on design, brand development and graphic design where needed.
Advise on images, packaging styles and pre-production art direction for product photography.
Ensure that all assets (images, logos, catalogues, style guides) are up to date and accessible to all areas of the business.
Project Management: Working with Traffic Coordinator
Assist with the decoding of briefs and advise timelines / requirements for planning.
Triage projects in terms of importance and assist with the switching between projects and staff.
Daily follow ups with Traffic to ensure that projects are delivered on time.
Ensure that weekly reporting is completed to directors including the capture of hours for tasks outside of main work priorities.
Liaise with third parties on briefs, obtaining work and clarity for designers where needed.
Attend meetings with suppliers and clients.
Direct follow up with designers and external staff on projects.
Studio Management:
Collate and submit invoices for cost centres to accounts.
Maintain systems such as Image services, Project management Software, Presentations and company shared folders.
Liaise with foreign offices for daily tasks, changes and other requirements as needed by international partners.
Arrange all IT requirements, including maintenance of computers, printers and disposable stock or office equipment.
Maintain and oversee the use of equipment for photographic studio, lighting and camera equipment.
Maintain and oversee the booking out of samples and other stock.
Staff Management: Reporting directly to Group Creative Director
Oversee the work and production for +/- 9 designers and a traffic coordinator.
Manage monthly performance and incentive bonuses through KPIs.
Manage and oversee all freelance to third parties, within budgets.
Screen and manage hiring of additional staff with HR.
Staff mentoring and growth as well as identifying areas of improvement for skills development.
Track and manage all leave and time away from work.
Motivate for and report on performance for annual increases and bonuses.
Staff discipline in accordance with the company code of conduct and performance requirements.
