Purpose of the role:

Individuals within the Business Intelligence Functional Analyst (BIFA) role identify
business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. They work closely with clients
and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make
sound business decisions. It is essential that BI Functional Analysts build an
understanding of the business at a level of detail that enables them to identify and address
critical issues. They provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable, and ensure the
information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other
systems.

Objectives:

• Provides design support for the development of business intelligence solutions.
• Works on medium to complex and cross-functional IT and business intelligence solutions.
• Works on multiple tasks/projects as a team member and sometimes as a technical lead.

Duties:

• Participate in the workstream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of BI solutions.
• Work with internal and external customers and IT partners to develop and analyse business intelligence needs.
• Reviews test plans and monitors the testing process to ensure that business results are tested.
• Researches tools, frameworks and mechanisms for data analytics.
• Provides input to standards, policies and procedures for the form, structure, and attributes of the BI tools and systems.
• Conducts feasibility studies and drafts proposals for evaluation by appropriate users and managers.
• Analyses technology trends to determine impact to the achievement of business goals.
• Resource Management


Requirements:

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related.
• 3 years’ experience with Kimball or Inmon data warehouses, data marts and supporting tools.
• 3 years’ experience leading organisations to implement future state business intelligence architects and/or solutions.
• 3 years’ leading major business intelligence and analytics development projects.
• Organisationally savvy with the ability to understand and speak the language of business and information technology.
• 3 years’ experience with pySpark, SQL and data analysis.
• 3 years’ experience with Business Intelligence Domain knowledge.
• 3 years’ Metadata management experience.
• 3 years’ experience in providing technical effort estimates to be used in project schedules and resource allocation.
• 3 years’ experience participating in test efforts.
• 3 years’ experience participating in Go-live planning activities.
• 3 years’ experience in translating Business Reporting and Analytics requirements to data requirements.
• 3 years’ experience working with interfaces.
• Conceptual, logical and physical modeling knowledge (rationalizing data objects)
• Knowledge of information management practices, architecture and frameworks, SDLC management.
• Ability to collaborate with business analysts and data stewards to assess if the model is fit for use.
• Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate on team efforts.
• Ability to translate business needs into enterprise BI and analytics architecture requirements
• Ability to rapidly comprehend new and emerging technologies, and potential implications to the enterprise and BI and DA architecture.
