Qualifications & Experience
• Grade 12
• NADSAM / B-Tech or equivalent
• COMSOC 1&2 / SAMTRAC /SHEMTRAC
• At least 5 years’ experience in safety management in the mining Industry, Both Surface and underground
• Experience in implementing and maintaining SHERQ systems.
• Blasting certificate will be an added advantage.
• Computer literate
• Valid Driver’s licence required.
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and procedures. (Auditors / OHSAS 18001 / ISO 14001 / 9001, etc.)

The duties for the position are as follows:

• Fulfil the duties of a Chief Safety Officer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act 2.19.4
• Develop, implement and maintain a Safety Management System and a Risk Management program to ensure
• Achievement of objectives, by establishing and implementing approved medium- and long-term plans, aligned to the Company’s strategic
business goals
• Provide specialist technical knowledge and advice to all levels of management and resolve a wide range of Safety and Risk Management-
related problems and related interfacing issues, requiring solutions for new projects, unusual conditions and corrective measures
• Manage subordinates to deliver the outputs of their jobs
• Develop effective working relationships with consultants, IOM and Governmental authorities and participate in seminars/forums to keep
abreast of developments within the industry
• Understand and interpret all relevant safety-related legislation, regulations and standards as it applies to the Mine’s operations, confirm
Interpretation with the Inspector of Mines and Machinery and manage implementation.
• Inform management of any legislative changes and implications thereof and proactively review the necessary programs.
• Coordinating the Health and Environmental Function.
