Our client in the Banking industry is looking for a Compliance Officer – (POPIA / OHS / Training). The candidate will assist the Head of Group Compliance and the Compliance Manager (POPIA / OHS / Training) in the execution of compliance duties and proactively safeguard the Bank against any compliance risks by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including amongst others, Acts, regulations, policies and procedures.

Key competencies required:

Knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations affecting the Financial Services Industry. Knowledge of proposed new and/or amendments where applicable.
Knowledge and understanding of key control assessment processes.
Knowledge and understanding of banking products, governance and control frameworks in the financial services industry.
Analytical skills to analyse trends and typologies in data and make informed decisions on such trends and typologies.
Ability to identify weaknesses in the control environment and recommend suggested changes.



Knowledge of the Regulatory landscape affecting the financial services industry.
Identifying and assessing proposed changes to new legislation or amendments to current legislation and assisting with conducting an impact assessment of the proposed new or amended changes.
Drafting governance documents.
Proactively identifying, analysing and drafting Risk Based Approaches for the Group.
Gathering information on request from competent authorities timeously and efficiently by engaging relevant stakeholders for such information requested and vetting such documents before submission.

Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA):

Define the Privacy Strategic Framework and drive implementation of this throughout the Bank.
Oversee compliance with Privacy legislation and regulations, including but not limited to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).
Conduct Privacy compliance reviews across the Bank.
Formulate training and ensure the delivery of Privacy training requirements across the Bank.
Implement Privacy Compliance Programs as defined and oversee the Privacy Program, especially as it pertains to business processes.
Support the Information Officer and Deputy Information Officers on Privacy compliance matters through ongoing reporting of Privacy matters to relevant committees.
Draft and / or review Privacy Policies and ensure that they are in line with legislative requirements.
Performing periodic risk reviews to identify internal and external Privacy risks and derive risk mitigation plans.
Ensure the identification, storage, protection, retrieval, and disposal of Personal Information in line with defined Privacy policies, procedures, and processes.


Assist management in compiling training material and assist in executing the relevant training interventions as planned.
Assist management in conducting spot checks with employees to test their understanding of the compliance training provided. Where gaps are identified, make recommendations to management on remediation required.

Data Analytics:

Conduct analytics using data on specific compliance requirements.
Proactively identify areas of concern where data analytics is required to address any shortfalls.
Track remediation


Assist in managing Compliance projects for the implementation of required systems for the Bank.
Conduct gap analysis, where appropriate, and manage the resolution of the gaps with relevant stakeholders.
Assist management in reporting on the progress made on compliance projects at relevant forums.


Relevant Bachelor’s degree.
Exposure to working with data analytics or analysing data.
At least 3 years of relevant experience within the Financial Services Industry.
Minimum 1-year exposure to working with data analytics or analysing data.
Experience in advising on matters in an organisation with a diverse range of business activities.
Assisting in the development of policies and procedures.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively within a team and the ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work after hours if there is a need to do so for short periods.
Ability to build successful and long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
Possess soft skills to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders long term.
