Driver Assessor-Trainer

Experience in the Transport Industry
At least three-years’ experience

Responsibilities

• Conduct practical driver skills assessments prior to employment.
• Vehicle maneuvering, yard assessments as well as on road assessments to be conducted for every driver.
• Identify training needs from incidents/accidents and recommend necessary training requirements to meet required performance standards and do retraining where necessary.
• Assist and advise in incident and accident investigations.
• Communicate and maintain effective working relationships with the staff.
• Responsible for the testing and on-route evaluation of the drivers.
• Responsible for regular in-cab assessments of all drivers.
• Liaise with training coordinator to develop long and short term training plan.
• Know and understand all new and existing transport regulations, guidelines and policies.
• Coordinate the development, implementation and presentation of training material to learners, explaining and discussing content, clarifying terminology and illustrating examples to ensure understanding and learning of course content.
• Work closely with Operations Manager and Transport Manager in the prevention of, vehicle brake downs, effective fuel consumption monitoring, green band driving and reduction in accidents etc.
• Participate in monthly Safety Advisory/SHEQ Committee Meetings.
• Monitor and record AARTO requirements.
• Assist with other Operational functions, as needed from time to time – e.g. owner-driver selections, truck evaluations, and diesel consumption or incident investigations.
• Plan and do ongoing refresher training with drivers.
• Be aware and implement Company training initiatives and goals.
• Monitor all training done to establish its success and give feedback to Operational Manager on a weekly basis.
• Obtain driver stats (diesel usage, km done, etc.) on a weekly basis and do planning or training based on these results.
• Assess vehicle maintenance expenses on a monthly basis in order to identify and achieve savings in vehicle maintenance and excessive wear and tear
• Compile weekly – monthly reports on driver assessments, based on risk, goals achieved and areas of concern.
• Submit monthly reports to the Operations Manager for submission to the training department.
