Our client, a leading Chrome Mining Group is looking for an experienced and qualified Energy Manager at their Corporate Office in Morningside, Sandton in Johannesburg.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide the focus and drive for advancing energy management including reduction efforts and energy conservation within the Samancor Chrome group.

BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY
Identify and assess level of issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to the business, financial and legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to analyse, identify trends, initiate, mitigate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE

Manage the Department:
Ensure an enabling climate/culture
Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
Labour complement in line with budget
Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Department
Manage performance against set targets and competencies
Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
Conduct recruitment interviews

CUSTOMERS
Identify areas where energy is wasted or energy efficiency needs improvement, analysing utility usage in order to develop conservation projects.

BUSINESS PROCESSES
Monitor and manages the energy efficiency of Samancor Chrome.
Implement conservation measures, monitor energy consumption, assess business decisions for sustainability, seek out opportunities for increasing energy efficiency and alternative energy sources
In order to maximize energy efficiency, create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, unnecessary consumption.
Monitor energy interventions
Integrate these projects / processes into site operations.
Throughout the development process, calculate the budget, project energy savings, and identify the goals for each project.
Work with the business units engineering teams to craft and implement measures.
Perform Energy Audits & assessments & analysis programs.
Analyse projects in relation to total life cycle cost and prepare proposals
Prepare regular utility consumption data reports.
Research and evaluate options, present recommendations, and implement programs for reducing energy and utility usage and the associated cost.
Be the expert for energy management, monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues, communicating and educating others on relevant topics.

Solve problems and implement solutions:
Facilitate problem solving sessions.
Gather and analyse data.
Analyse alternative solutions and recommend best solution/s based on:
HSEC impact
Cost – risk – benefit analysis on key equipment performance parameters
Cost benefit to the organisation
Recommend best solutions to problems through the change management process
Develop a list of clear problem statements and business cases for problems requiring
Monitor and advertise latest maintenance and technology developments

Manage the Departmental budget

Minimum qualifications:
BSc. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree or National Diploma
Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience, 3 years’ managerial experience
Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

Additional qualifications:
Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) would be advantageous
Good understanding of electrical systems and renewable/alternative sources
Technical expertise and decision making ability on a daily basis
