KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS

Matric
Registration with the South African Nursing Council.
Proof of professional indemnity.
Diploma: Enrolled Nurse.
Valid Drivers Licence

SKILLS

Fully bilingual
Good English written and verbal communication.
Excellent telephone manner with an overall pleasant disposition.
Ability to be assertive when needed.
Flexible work style.
Leadership ability.

EXPERIENCE

One year experience in Geriatric nursing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure a current plan of care for each resident.
Manage the unit effectively and ensure high quality care is given.
Ensure the physical, social and physiological well being of residents which includes the regular monitoring of their health and treatment.
Perform the required nursing procedures which fall within the scope of an Enrolled Nurse.
Assist residents with their health and hygiene.
Promote independence and mobility of residents.
Counsel and advise residents.
Maintain the confidentiality of diagnosis, treatment, residents, families and all matters pertaining to Healthcare
To work day or night duty depending on the needs of the Healthcare and Villagers.
Maintain the quality and standard of care given.
Maintain good inter personal relationship with all departments
Responsible for functioning & control of all relevant medical equipment.
Assist Village Nursing Services when the need arises.

PLANNING AND ORGANISATION:

Supervise and control all subordinates ensuring that the delegations of procedures are within the scope of duties allocated to the different categories of staff.
Ensure that the staff are competent to perform the procedures allocated.
Assist in the in-service training of basic nursing care and management of the aged.
Supervise the serving of meals and the residents consumption thereof, ensuring that any special dietary needs are met.
Monthly mock drill to be performed.

ADMINISTRATION:

Maintain correct residents records ensuring that all information is communicated to all staff.
Maintain correct administration, recording and storage of medicines and dressing materials.
Control all stock, materials and stationery ordering in time.
Control the time keeping of all sub-ordinates.
Organise transport over weekends/nights when necessary, ensuring that all staff will be picked at the pre arranged pick up points in order to have them on duty at the right time.
Organise relief staff over weekends/nights when necessary.
Resident and staff registers to be up dated daily.
Check emails when there is a convenient time and reply when applicable.

COMMUNICATION:

Liaise with Manager – Nursing Services regarding problems encountered, reporting same immediately.
Liaise with medical practitioners keeping them up to date with specific residents’ problems and treatment in your care.
Liaise with relatives, counsel and advise where needed.
Maintain standards and efficiency of individual performance of all staff.
Maintain close working relationship with subordinates and counsel where performance levels are deemed inadequate.

GENERAL:

Maintain and encourage a team approach to all routines and care given to all residents.
A Valid driver’s license is a pre-requisite.
Perform any other tasks as reasonably requested.
