Enterprise Data Architect
Location: Sandton

Job Description:
In close collaboration with the Enterprise Architect and the Chief Data Officer, the Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for visualizing, designing and driving the implementation of the Organization’s enterprise data management framework. The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for translating the business requirements into design specification (or a Blueprint) for implementation by the IT development and Data teams The Enterprise Data Architect is also responsible for defining the data architecture framework, standards, and principles, including modeling, metadata, reference data and master data. In addition, the Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for defining reference architecture, which is a pattern others can follow to create and improve data systems. The Enterprise Data Architect is also responsible for defining data flows (as in which parts of the organization generate data, which require data to function, how data flows are managed, and how data changes in transition). Lastly, the Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for collaborating and coordinating with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors.

Responsibilities:

Best Practice Research
Research on development and trends in terms of building a modern data architecture for a data driven organization
Knowledge of industry standards as well as best practice and identify gaps

Data Architecture
Partner with business, IT and data colleagues to determine and refine requirements, understand business needs and translate needs into a design document that can be easily translated to technical solutions.
Accountable for ensuring that the data architecture design has been implemented into the various technical solutions.
Design effective solutions and models to store and retrieve organizational data.
Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating stakeholder operations, applications and programming.
Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external regulations.
Install and organize information systems to guarantee organizational functionality.
Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams.
Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.
Educate staff members through training and individual support.

Risk, data and compliance management and reporting
Ensure full compliance to statutory regulations, policies, procedures, best practice, professional standards as well as the strategy.
Consider data security when designing and implementing data solutions

Personal and Professional Development
Assume responsibility for your own personal and professional development to maintain a superior level of skill and knowledge. This must include expanding technical knowledge to drive data management.
Maintain current knowledge of data management via literature reviews and conferences to keep knowledge up to date.
Ensure ongoing knowledge of industry standards as well as best practice and identify gaps between these definitions/data elements and company data elements/definitions.
Participate in the relevant knowledge sharing forums.

Job Requirements:
Minimum NQF Level 7 Certification or qualification in Data Engineering or Data Warehouse or Solution Architecture or equivalent
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in data architecture and / or solution architecture.
Experience with databases and working with large scale data.
Good understanding of relational databases.
Good understanding of organizational systems and how these translate into quality databases that can be harnessed for decision making.
Good understanding of cloud technologies
Project management or consulting experience applied in cross-functional projects.
Data Architect certifications for big data and cloud infrastructure.
