One of our clients is looking for an individual that will be responsible for preparing construction estimates in support of the proposals department and for preparing all construction related deliverables associated with the estimating and the tendering process whether during the bid phase or during execution.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

Matric/Grade 12/Senior Certificate essential
National Diploma in (mechanical or electrical) tertiary education/BTech or BSc in Quantity Surveying N Dip / B Tech (Mechanical or Industrial) is advantageous
10 – 15 years working experience in the engineering industry, preferably with exposure to mechanical, structural and piping environment
Must be computer literate in MS office (advance MS Excel)

Responsibilities:

Prepare and adapt the list of deliverables during the bid phase
On arrival of enquiries, analyse and interpret tenders for a better understanding, provide best technical and financial solutions
Review and assess the scope of work, associated risks, tender complexity and provide feedback
Evaluate bid documents and initiate requests for clarification when needed
Visit the site associated with the enquiry for tender clarifications and site inspections to gather information and provide feedback in relation to the enquiry
Accurately take off quantities from drawings or any other document provided
Prepare accurate cost estimates for complete installations based on approach selected and any contractual requirements within required time
Prepare the BOQ''s/pricing schedules in accordance with the project requirements
Prepare and issue subcontract enquiries (liaising with the technical department as required) to ensure accurate costs are received to maximise the opportunity for improved margins
Ensure current pricing and benchmarking of bids are requested in accordance with the procurement policy
Responsible for preparing the cost estimate summary for all disciplines and presenting the outcome at the bid approval meeting
Liaise with commercial department to incorporate all commercial qualifications or clarifications and further verifications
Present completed estimate to executive management for review
Perform a post-submission report and provide lessons learned
Maintain and update company cost data within the computer estimating system (master file)
Attend post bid clarification meetings with clients when necessary

Key Competencies/Skills

Need to have been in an estimating role or have extensive engineering site experience in the petrochemical industry
Must have experience in Base Line estimating, schedules and costs and an understanding of Gulf Norm labour costing
Must be able to read and understand mechanical and/or construction designs and assembly drawings (structural or mechanical)
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Experience in CCS (Construction Computer Software) is required
Ability to work under pressure
Must be deadline driven
Ability to communicate clearly - verbal & written
A basic understanding of contract laws and conditions such as NEC and FIDIC
