House Of BLANK? OH NO! WHAT? Ok, we got this. House Of_ is a shared office space. Boring. House Of_ is a community. Cool! House Of_ provides the entire physical and social infrastructure to empower small businesses… we build the castle, you rock up and fill in the blank. Now that sounds more interesting.

House Of_ started as a coworking space. Over time, we grew to serve small offices as well. We now assist new businesses as they grow all the way from one employee to ten, and we typically have two or three such businesses in our community, which is also full of freelancers, consultants and the occasional student. This means that the people you interact with at House Of_ are diverse, interesting, and inspiring. There are about 20 – 30 people in the House each day, and we aim to grow to 50 – 60.

What do we do all day? Whatever the client needs. This varies, but let’s talk big picture. A healthy business needs to cocoon itself in a safe, nurturing environment. So we have security, access control, ergonomic chairs and standing desks, and a front of house team who keep the wheels on. A healthy business needs healthy, happy employees. So we have coffee, tea, popcorn, a microwave, and so forth. We have phone booths, meditation space and an indoor garden. We have light, light, light and lekker views.

Ok, sounds great – so why are you hiring? Because our clients need more… and so do we. We see a future where our clients can walk up to the front desk and get help with anything they want – “I broke my chair,” “Can you recommend a restaurant,” or “I need a social media writer to fill in for a few hours this week?” In order to provide this, we are looking for a person who is developing their skills in an area that we don’t currently have in house. The first skill on the list is social marketing (online and offline).

This person will be the bright smile that anchors the mood for everyone in the space. This person will spend time at the front desk, buzzing the door, answering enquiries, and providing a welcoming presence… but will also spend time in the heart of the space, chatting around the coffee machine, organising after work drinks or a weekly FIFA tournament, finding guest speakers for learning sessions, doing what it takes to keep House Of_ vibrant and happening.

As this person develops their skills engaging and communicating with our community, they will get more and more responsibility taking over our outreach communication as well – email marketing, social media, profile listings, and more.

In the short term, the role is for an intern, but the career path that begs to be blazed is to community manager, onwards to marketing manager and ultimately to general manager. There is flexibility in the route, and we will support requests for learning resources to further you from intern to #boss.

The starter pack is for half days – preferably mornings but there is flexibility. Our only hard requirement is that your half-day overlaps with the 12 – 2pm window. The cheque is R6000.00 per month. You will be supporting our current general manager, who has his hands full keeping the physical infrastructure of the House ticking over. We would like to upgrade you to full-time before the end of 2020.

Initial – Duties & Responsibilities
Be able to start early – mid January
Be available for training in mid Dec (1 week)
Answering front door (shared responsibility with GM)
Answering enquiries (shared responsibility with GM)
Giving tours of the House (shared responsibility with GM)
Minor tidying (we have cleaning staff) (shared responsibility with GM)
Refresh the coffee machine
Count inventory
Attend events in the House to give us a brand presence
Upload posts from our marketing agency to our social media profiles
Take photos of new members
Host guests in waiting area (Ask:“Do you want a coffee while you wait?”)
Cover for the GM on sick leave etc

Over & Above
Look for interesting events to host in House Of_
Own the hosting and brand presence of House Of_ events
Suggest things to write about for our outreach marketing
Possibly write them.
Run AdWords campaigns and possibly plan campaigns
Plan community events (work drinks, mini food market days, etc)
