Function of Job:

Be responsible for Fruit & Vegetable Department Operation, to include the overall management, efficiency and profitability of the fruit and vegetable department.

Duties & Responsibilities

Managing the Fruit and Vegetables Department to maximize gross profit
Oversee employees, ensuring appropriate produce handling, customer service, and pursuit of sales goals
Manage employee schedules and time-off requests
Supervise, evaluate, train, assign and schedule work of department staff
Collaborate with the Store Manager to produce displays and inventory
Check prices across multiple vendors to ensure the best cost
Ensures that suppliers deliver quality stock in a timely manner.
Provides the pricing information to the office staff responsible for entering prices into the store’s computers, and supervises the placement of shelf tags.
Responsible for the smooth running of the department
Order processes, estimates of the amounts and frequencies of the required products
Organization and controlling of inventory
Responsibility for the freshness and the variety of the assortment
Understanding and knowledge of the purchasing of fresh fruits and vegetables from different wholesalers
Following the company’s guidelines, the manager prioritizes orders based on the amount of space available and on the demand for items
Complying with hygiene, housekeeping and safety standards
To be constantly informed about improvements and searching for the best products

Minimum Requirements

Matric with some technical training or related qualification
Minimum 5 years’ experience retail in vegetables and fruits essential
Good knowledge of the fruit and vegetables market
Proficiency with POS systems and computer skills for accounting and inventory purpose
Excellent customer service and communication skills
