Salary: All of our employees are currently on 65% of their normal salaries and this will increase as the occupancies and industry recovers. We will consider a salary of R35 000 – R40 000 prior to salary cut. (As mentioned, this is slightly flexible within reason)

The Head Chef at the Game Reserve is responsible for overseeing 2 Lodge kitchens. Each kitchen has a senior chef which is responsible for the day to day operations within the kitchen as well as a large portion of the daily administrative tasks. The Head Chef’s responsibility would ultimately be controlling the admin work that the Senior Chef’s submit and doing the financial recon at month end as well as weekly stocktakes and cost reporting.

The Head Chef will be accommodated in a medium sized self-contained unit on property, which has a bedroom with Airconditioning, en-suite bathroom with Shower, Lounge and Kitchenette with balcony. Unfortunately the accommodation is not suitable to families and children.

Working shifts could either be 6 weeks on/ 2 weeks off or 3 weeks on, 1 week off.

- We are specifically looking for someone with a strong Lodge Specific background who is comfortable working with a team that are not well qualified. The Head Chef needs to be a hands on person which can get actively involved in training and uplifting the team as well as creating excitement within the team for what they produce.
- As we are shifting towards a strong focus on sustainability we would like to have a chef who has an interest in this.
- The lodge has an existing herb garden on River Lodge’s roof from which herbs and some salad items can be included in the guest menu
- We have a Kosher kitchen on site and have many Halaal guests and therefore a chef with a keen knowledge on Religious dietaries
- Interest and on trend with other dietaries such as Plant based, Flexitarian, etc.
