Graduate Mechanical Engineer - eThekwini Durban
Salary: R10K Per Month

Purpose of Position:

Complement Recruitment are recruiting for a recently qualified Mechanical Engineering Graduate for a 2 year graduate program based in eThekwini, Durban, Kwazulu Natal.

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric; Mechanical Engineering Degree or relevant engineering Diploma
• Candidates must have own and reliable transport to and from Cato Ridge
• Must be willing to work shifts
• Ability to be self-manage and multitask
• Ability to follow directions
• Timeliness

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform to quality, waste, and production standards and goals
• Ensure plant and processes run as per IMS standards, SOPs, WI, formats, specifications, best practices/run parameters
• Follow TQM principles & methodology for sustaining current and future continual improvement
• Communicate orally/in writing to other departments for resolution of mechanical problems, reporting defective material, coordination of job preparations, changeovers and daily shift information
• Report production/systems accurately and timely including waste, WIP, time codes, raw materials
• Ensure your own safety while operating the machine and that of those assisting with operations
• Manpower planning
• Control of Metallized Waste as per target & its Removal.
• Reduction of downtime, set-up time and boat time and update the file on a daily basis.
• Maintenance of boat consumption /al wire consumption as per target
• Updating of daily, weekly and monthly reports (Material inventory, Kaizen, 5s)
• Maintenance of stock & non Stock material indent (log book and other stationary items)
• Boat / wire consumption and consumables to be issued on weekly basis in OPM and consumption control
• Running of machine as per the standard parameter and all standards to be followed
• Plasma cylinder stock maintenance
• Attend to and reduce customer complaints
• Order status and update to PPC
• WIP match with OPM
• Chuck, nip roll, friction test report, cork tape changing schedule and problems to be shared / resolved
• Nip roller bearings, hardness checking
• Assist with roll loading and unloading pallets on a weekly basis
• Paper core orders as per slitting plan
• Maintain paper core waste as per target
• Encourage and follow TIE activity to be done between 09h00 – and 09h30 daily
• Shutdown and job planning All display should be completed before the 6th of every month
• Weighing scale calibration daily
• Creation and revision of Work Instructions
• Preparation for External audit.

Quality
• Inspect the product for any quality defects before sending to Production Department.
• Monitors System Process Controls (SPC’s) information and ensures action is taken in response to out of tolerance conditions, both process and product
• Reading and understand the Operating Procedure Manuals (OPM’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s)
• Ensures samples submitted to the Lab are taken correctly and in a timely manner, particularly to fulfil Certificate of Analysis (COA) requirements.
• Assist in non-conformance investigations, as needed and or requested
• Ensure suitable material hold/quarantine process as needed and requests

Food Safety
• Read and understand Work Instructions in regards to food safety
• Ensure documented completion of assigned inspections, checklists, and audits
• Ensure proper hygiene practices are followed

5S Initiative
• Understand, support and participate in 5S initiative
• Ensure work areas are maintained to Visual Standards
• Ensure 5S audits are performed and documented at specified time frames for their assigned area during shift

Safety
• Responsible for complying with all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures
• Read and understand all manuals relative to safety, food safety, training and process control-production and equipment safety
• Attend and participate in required monthly safety meetings
• Identify hazards and risk factors in the work area that may affect health or safety and take corrective action immediately. Report those that cannot be immediately corrected to the In charge and/or Safety Coordinator
• Responsible for and ensuring your ability to safely operate line equipment and other equipment (i.e. Hand jacks, hoists and forklifts)
• Ensures the safe handling and labelling of chemicals

Working Conditions/Environment
• Production floor - not climate controlled with no heating or air conditioning with high temperatures in summer months and possible cold temperatures in winter months
• Breaks and lunches can be taken in a climate controlled environment
• Equipment, safety, environmental and quality concerns may demand constant attention

Physical Demands
• Required to sit or stand and move about the facility
• Walk or stand on concrete for long periods of time
• Climb ladders sometimes to high levels

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Steel toed shoes, Hair and beard nets
• Safety Glasses, Ear plugs, Apron
• Dust masks or Powered air purifying respirators
• Other protective equipment such as gloves, etc. needed for the job being performed per the job specifications
