JOB DESCRIPTION
• Fully competent in gravure 8 colour station machine programming and troubleshooting
• Independently able to set-up and run an 8 station colour gravure printing press machine.
• Able to print reverse as well as surface jobs
• Independently be able to load all 8 cylinders required to run an 8-colour printing job.
• Independently be able to blend the ink colours using only primary base colours to mix to achieve any colour in the ink pantone colour book.
• exposure in all aspects of rotogravure printing from ink mixing till final product slitting, quality control and dispatch to customer.
• Colour accuracy most important
• Minimal scrap to be generated
• Must have full ISO 22 000 quality control training and implementation in the gravure printing press industry.
• Able to complete ISO related documentation and quality checks
• Must be able to achieve matt bag printing which is the newest and latest development and type of printing in the gravure printing industry.
• Must be able to mix and achieve a shiny gold and silver high gloss printing effect which is new in the gravure industry.
• Must be Able to set and operate manual as well as fully automatic gravure printing presses
• Able to mix independently all ink colours to set up press for new job.
• Researching and implementing latest gravure printing technologies
• Ensure uniform conductive ink lines are achieved.
• Programming machines to use with high viscosity inks, high pressure, and a slow printing speed to keep up with latest technology and to ensure most efficient and highest quality printing is achieved.
• Modify gravure printing processes before mass printing (ie efficiently set up press before print run for optimal efficiencies)
• Setting parameters such as viscosity, tension, blade setting, print speed
• Manage and maintain staff and equipment whilst producing quality packaging to set procedures with minimum waste to specification.
• Carry out quality tests to the specified conditions and to the specified frequency.
• To ensure all running times and downtime etc. is accurately recorded onto the business system and pulling monthly reports for analysis.
• Must understand the customers’ requirements in terms of packaging
• Constantly learning new skills and technologies
• Highlight any ink and raw material issues to factory manager
• Highlight machine issues to maintenance
• Follow safety rules and regulations and train junior printers
• Attend health and safety, fire safety, HACCP, ISO training
• Attend workshops on team building
• Prepare daily production report for Production Manager
• Check raw material against job cards -micron, clarity and width
• Able to give technical support to production, in terms of ink adhesion
• Perform assigned production operation to the required safety and quality standards.
• Load raw material as well as printed rolls independently
• Setting up and running of cold seal, water based, solvent based and solventless laminators
• Follow job cards 100% in terms of glue usage and raw materials
• Ensure coating weights are correct and constantly check adhesion, complete all records
• Ensure that the machine and area are always kept Clean
• Minimize waste
• Load correct size cores per job card
• Ensure that material is in unwind direction per job card
• Eye mark is visible and that material is slit to job card specifications -size, weight per roll
• Complete all ISO records required
• Do visual inspections and alert Quality controller of any defective material
