Head of Credit Risk

The Head of Credit Risk has day to day responsibility for Shareholder Credit Risk and reports to the Head of Balance Sheet Management. In addition, this position oversees overall credit risk management of the group with a dotted reporting line to the Group Chief Risk Officer

BSM/Shareholder role
• Ultimate responsibility for all shareholder direct or shareholder guaranteed credit risk across the group, including all subsidiaries, licensed entities and any other business structure, in respect of shareholders.
• Oversees and manages the analysis of new credit approvals.
• Ensure the annual review of existing credit exposures is done effectively.
• Establish and maintain an internal credit rating capability.
• Establish and maintain an internal credit economic capital framework and ensure that this framework is integrated into wider economic capital framework.
• Establish and maintain a credit risk appetite for shareholders.
• Discussion and presentation of the above to the credit risk governance forums as required.
• Optimise Murex system to improve efficiencies in the credit workflow.
• Provide input into the legal process and other legal documentation in transactions where shareholders assume direct exposure to credit risk.
• Continuously engaging on any potential credit risks arising on existing exposures.
• Manage distressed credits to optimise recoveries.
• Effective leadership of Credit team.
• Provide guidance and oversight to the credit quantitative risk analyst.
Group Role
• Establish and define the overall framework for the consistent and unified governance, identification, measurement, monitoring, management and reporting of credit risk across, including instances where asset managers are mandated to manage credit assets.
• The credit risk framework includes shareholder credit risk (including reinsurance- and receivables credit risk) and credit risk that is assumed on behalf of the clients.
• Develop and maintain co-operative relationships between all stakeholders in the credit value chain.

Responsible for all SAM and regulatory credit related requirements

Risk Exco and Credit committee membership

• CA(SA) / CFA
At least 10 years Credit Risk Management experience
Preferable experience in structured finance transactions
• Proven knowledge and experience in credit analysis of corporate and public sector credit risk, including secured and unsecured lending, project finance and workouts.
• Ability to lead the process, work independently, with little oversight and handle multiple demands.
• Ability to ask relevant, informed and intelligent questions about transactions, structures, relationships and risks.
• A sound understanding of legal risk pertaining to legal documentation for lending transactions.
• Strong computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Murex, Credit tools.8.8mm
