Intermediate Actuarial Specialist

The successful candidates will form part of a high-performing team and will support the production of the Financial, Capital and Risk reporting output for Published as well as Regulatory Reporting.
The role will provide the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of products and will require incumbents to continually review and improve existing methods and processes.
The position will further offer regular opportunities to engage with and present reported results to various stakeholders and management at a senior level.

• Perform regular quarterly valuations for financial reporting and submissions to the regulator
• Present valuation results to management and effectively explain key drivers of results (for all relevant metrics)
• Critically review current processes and actuarial models with a view to continuous improvement
• Support the delivery of relevant project objectives as these arise
• Extract insights and understand the drivers of key financial metrics for business consideration.
• Effectively collaborate with business and other specialized areas such as Accounting, Product Development, and Balance Sheet Management
• Assist with IFRS 17 implementation and transition to BAU

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Actuarial student with 9 exam credits
• At least 2 years actuarial experience
• Knowledge of IFRS and Regulatory Solvency valuations
• Prophet (including DCS) and VBA programming experience
• Advanced MS Excel skills
• SQL / MS Access skills
• Strong technical skills
• Strong detail orientation coupled with the ability to see the “big picture”
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Motivated self-starter who shows initiative, is proactive, looks for ways to improve
• Able to complete tasks within agreed timelines and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
• Interest in financial modelling software
• Ability to plan and prioritise

Product Development Specialist
Sandton, Johannesburg

• Product design and product pricing to assist with the approval of new products, including Prophet coding / modelling
• Actuarial/technical support to the rest of business
• Provide support to the system development team in implementing new products and other required changes on the admin system
• Model building to assist broader business decision making.
• Setting up management tools for assessing viability and ongoing suitability of products.
• Assisting Business Development projects.
• Assistance with regulatory impacts on the business.
• Assist with ad-hoc projects.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Matric
• Actuarial Degree
• Minimum 2 years Actuarial working experience
• Good progress with Actuarial exams. Preferably, CT equivalent exams complete
• Proficiency in Excel
• Relevant experience in Life Insurance will be preferred
• Knowledge of Prophet and DCS will be an advantage
• Good written and verbal communication skills
