JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT / SENIOR BOOKKEEPER
(BASED IN PORT ELIZABETH)

The role will be to effectively coordinate the day-to-day financial processes of the Company. This will involve the full bookkeeping function up to Trial Balance. This position will report to the Financial Manager.

Key Performance Areas
Bookkeeping and Accounting o Responsible for the integrity of the Trial Balance and Pastel sub books. Ensure that all data captured into the system is valid, accurate and complete and in line with financial reporting standards).
• Responsible for processing up to Trial Balance level (Financial Statements).
• Processing of intercompany transactions.
• Processing of month end and year end journals (standard and ad hoc).
• Expense claims – check paperwork and general ledger allocations (ad hoc).
• Monthly close off of Pastel sub books.
• Monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and Pastel sub books using an electronic template.
• Assist the financial manager with all audits (Financial, SARS and internal).
• Provide feedback by using an internal system.
• Maintaining an up-to-date record keeping and filing system.
Bank
• Daily cash book processing.
• Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the bank accounts / cash book.
• Responsible for checking, loading and being the first release on all online banking transactions in line with SOP’s and mandates (creditors, EFT’s, monthly standard payments).
• Ensure that all statutory and non-statutory payments i.e. creditors, municipal accounts, intercompany payments, etc. are paid according to due dates.
• Monthly Bank Reconciliations for all bank accounts.
• Verifying, load and maintain beneficiaries in line with SOP’s.
• Daily and weekly monitoring of cash flow. Update the cash flow statements / tracker on a daily basis.
Statutory reporting
• Prepare monthly VAT reconciliations – balance reconciliation as well as reconciling both output- and input VAT transactions between the financial records and submissions to SARS. Ensure that all supporting documentation is valid and that all VAT transactions comply with legislation.
Inventory Control
• Inventory control over all divisions – manage and review monthly and annual stock counts and ensure that all variances are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
• Capturing of stock codes on Pastel for all new and approved stock items.
Debtor’s control
• Debtors sub book management
• Allocate incoming payments in Pastel.
• Review any reconciliations.
• Monthly reconciliation of intercompany accounts.
• Compile and maintain monthly credit notes register
Creditor’s control
• Creditors sub book management
• Manage and review all creditor’s reconciliations and the timelines thereof. Authorisations to be done according to company mandates.
• Allocate all creditor payments in Pastel.
• Monthly reconciliation of intercompany accounts.
Assets
• Accurately calculate depreciation on a monthly basis and process the depreciation journals in Pastel.
• Maintain the fixed asset register (update with all asset acquisitions and disposals, management of asset verifications).
• Maintain and ensure that the small asset register of the company is up to date at all times.
• Insurance – ensure that all asset acquisitions and disposals are submitted to the Financial Manager to update insurance schedules.

Experience and Qualifications
B.Com Accounting preferable however equivalent accounting qualification / certification will be considered.
Minimum 3 years relevant experience in a similar position essential.
Current working knowledge of Pastel Partner.
Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (IFRS for SMEs), financial processes and practices.
Up to date knowledge and good understanding of VAT Legislation.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.

Computer Literacy
Pastel Partner – essential.
Intermediate knowledge of MS Office packages (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
Intermediate knowledge of virtual programmes (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom etc.)
