Our client, a specialist in the Design and Manufacturing industry is looking for an experienced and qualified Senior Lathe Operator at their factory in Kya Sands in Johannesburg.

• Takes responsibility for area, team and equipment

• Happy to get stuck in and do the work and not only try and manage, this is more important than leadership qualities

Main Responsibility
Advanced manufacture of parts by preparing and operating manual lathe machine; performing tasks such as drilling, turning, threading with in a give time.

General Tasks/Duties
Machine parts to specifications
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers
Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machine
Monitor the feed and speed of machine during the machining process, and ensure that these are correct
Ensure that the appropriate tools are selected, to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Observe and listen to operating machine or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs, and report to relevant supervisor, ensure equipment operations efficiently
Check work piece to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled
Position and fasten work piece
Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency
Clean and lubricate machine, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
Ensuring that all worked times are correctly written on the Job card (Start of job Time to end of job Time)
Make own tooling where needed.(Grind special HSS tools & make jigs)

Specific Skills Required
Must be able to train other staff
Must be able to machine in recommend machine time.
Must have a good knowledge on machine tools , and making of jigs
