Overview:
The Junior Attorney will advise and represent the Graduate Institute of Financial Sciences and its Board of Directors on all legal matters affecting the company. The incumbent will serve as a generalist in the office with responsibilities including, among other things, routine and complex contract drafting, review and negotiation, litigation support and management, investigation support, dispute resolution, and legal advice on policies and procedures. The incumbent will work closely with GIFS staff, business leadership, managers of entities affiliated with GIFS.
Outcomes and responsibilities:
The Junior Attorney will:
• Analyse and help prepare and negotiate contracts (including with sponsors, subcontractors and vendors), memoranda, leases, licenses, corporate organisational documents, opinions and other documents needed to carry out GIFS objectives.
• Assist with pursuing alternative dispute resolution, prosecuting and defending litigation, and settling outstanding matters. Assist in preparing briefs, complaints, answers and replies, and make appearances and motions as needed. Present evidence at administrative hearings in cases of moderately complex issues.
• Under the direction of a supervising attorney, advise management on legal issues and related GIFS policies, as requested.
• Under the direction of a supervising attorney, research and provide information concerning legal and policy issues of concern to GIFS in areas such as contracts, misdemeanors, landlord-tenant issues, labor issues, civil procedure, and other matters.
