Our client is a independent portfolio and funds management business providing investment solutions. They operate multiple licensed entities in multiple global locations.

The purpose of this role is to support the Brands with legal advice, communication, and implementation of the Company’s legal objectives, corporate governance systems, offering corporate secretarial services to the Board, operating philosophies, business strategies, and vision. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives. They will provide effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, manages the legal, and governance function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel. The incumbent is directly and indirectly involved in complex business transactions in negotiating critical contracts for Cigarette Company and its related entities in and outside Zimbabwe.

Duties & Responsibilities
Participates in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provides continuing counsel and guidance on Legal management matters and on Legal implications of all matters.

Serves as a legal advisor on business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.

Judges the merits of assigned court cases filed against or on behalf of the company, works with the appropriate employees to define a strategic defence and approves settlements of disputes where warranted.

Assumes responsibility for all assigned tasks in ensuring that the company conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Works with cross-functional teams to ensure business processes flow smoothly with regards to Legal aspects.

External Contacts: Suppliers, local authorities, government agencies, external general counsel, media personnel, statutory bodies, Brands (other companies in the Group of Companies)

Desired Experience & Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Law.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a large corporate organisation in a legal advisory capacity
Knowledge of all the relevant legislation
Knowledge of corporate governance regulations and legislation
