Operations Controller (Trucking / Logistics)

We are urgently recruiting for a passionate and dynamic Operations Controller to manage all operations (logistics and transport management) for an rapidly growing cross-border trucking company. You will have 5+ years’ experience in a Supervisory role and knowledge of the long-Distance/Cross Boarder Transport industry.

Desired Skills & Experience
• Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Logistics, Management, Operations or Transport
• Solid previous experience of managing the operations of a trucking or fleet company, spanning at least 5 years
• Employee Relations and Conflict Management skills.
• Good understanding of operations finance and/or analysis of management accounts / financial statements
• Knowledge of Health and Safety Procedures, Requirements and Legislation.
• Ability to manage and motivate a team, schedule tasks and prioritize actions, allocate resources effectively, delegate tasks and manage projects.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Computer literate (including ERP systems)

Key responsibilities will also include:
Logistics:
• Planning routes, load scheduling and processing book out fees for all deliveries and ensuring that the most economical routes are used at all times.
• Booking in deliveries and liaising with customers.
• Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning system.
• Ensuring all partners in the supply chain are working effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operations.
• Tracking, updating and communicating effectively with clients and responding to their requirements.
• Booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver within agreed terms.

Transport management:
• Management of the assets and staff under your control and the meeting of objectives set in the budget process.
• Maintaining of a high level of discipline within the operations and ensuring staff under your control maintain high level of service to customers.
• Developing transportation relationships and sourcing new clients.
• Monitoring and reporting on transport costs as well as putting measures in place to manage driver as well as fuel costs.
• Negotiating and bargaining transportation prices.
• Dealing with the effects of congestion / delays and addressing variances against plan with drivers and customers and escalation where appropriate for driver to debrief
• Reconciling of trips for all drivers and reporting on expenditure.
• Ensuring that assets and staff comply with all statutory and legal requirements and facilitating the renewal and tracking of all relevant licences (traffic fines, E-toll, license expiry dates), vehicle records and fleet cards.
• Developing and maintaining effective information and document management systems as well as an up to date filing system.
• Development and maintenance of Company systems and tools.
• Ensuring that all assets/vehicles are serviced within the allowed service intervals.
• To accept new vehicles into the fleet and cover compliance with technical specifications and ensuring roadworthiness inspections are done regularly
• Accident / Incident investigation and submission of all documentation to the appointed insurance company
