a Manufacturing Company in Pietermaritzburg is looking for a Setter.

Main Purpose of the Job:
Required to set machines within the department.

Requirements:
Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
Fluent in English
Must have sober habits, be reliable and hardworking
Physically fit and in good Health
Ability and willingness to work overtime when required
Must be able to perform under pressure

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Machine Settings / Production Control
· Ensure the correct setup of the equipment to manufacture parts as per checking fixtures, customer drawings or customer samples.
· Ensure jobs are completed on time as per the production plan.
· Using setting best practices, can setup multiple parts on various types of machines as per the requirements of the Supervisor or Production Manager.
· Can develop new parts within a reasonable timeframe, run sequential parts where required, run parts in the correct batch sizes according to the packing or Kanban requirements.
· Ensure the necessary tooling (including spare tooling) is available, stored neatly and maintained in good condition.
· Ensure consistent master setup records, data, instructions and programs are maintained to allow collaboration and contingency within the setting team.
· Planning jobs according to wire size, priority and complexity (job run times) in conjunction with in Production Planner, Supervisor or Production Manager.
· Immediately highlight any potential issues or reasons which will delay the delivery of the job to the Supervisor.

Utilisation & Efficiency
· Maximising machine productivity:
- Ensuring parts are produced as per the standards. Optimise part run and setup times
- Co-ordinating with the workshop to ensure machines can run at optimal speed.
- Planning, co-ordinating and monitoring the timeous delivery of wire from stores.
- Removal of wastes in line with LEAN principles.
-· Ensure daily maintenance is performed, maximising machine lifetimes and availability.
- Responsible for ensuring all breakdowns are reported timeously and liaise with the workshop on resolution.
· Monitor machinery to ensure they are performing at maximum efficiency and investigate underperformance.
· Immediately highlight any potential issues with machinery to the Supervisor.

Time Recording, Discipline & Training
· Check, sign and verify timesheets.
· Communicate effectively with other setters and execute the instructions of the department supervisor.
· Sharing of skills and training of fellow setters or trainee setters as directed.

Safety & Quality
· Ensure a safe and clean working environment for all employees by adhering to safety standards as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act (85 OF 1993).
· Adhere to the company quality procedures to provide the highest level of service to all interested parties.
· Complete the necessary quality documentation i.e. BIS cards, F/A Cards, First-off and in-process sampling

General
· Meet the company’s expectations for setter specific skills.
· Take a proactive approach to problem solving, collaborating and sharing of ideas amongst the setting team.
· Ensure the departments work areas and products are kept clean using 5S principles.
· Participate in continuous improvement.
· Carry out any other related duties, within reason, as requested by management.
