This position will advise the Managing Director and report to the Audit Committee on the audit plan and matters relating to:
- Internal audit
- Risk and risk management
- Internal and loss control
- Accounting procedures and practises
- Compliance with legislation
Key areas of responsibility for the position include the following: * Proposing and advising on the company’s internal audit strategies and policies * Managing the Internal Audit Department which include planning of audits, forensic audits, reporting on audits and applying fraud policies and guidelines within the company * Advising and consulting on risk management * Evaluating risk exposure relating to the company’s governance, operations and information systems based on the reliability and integrity of financial and other operational information, operating efficiency, safeguarding of assets, compliance with legislation and other regulations * Developing and managing a formalised risk-based strategic audit plan, based on the assessment of key risk areas and ensuring that risk mitigation procedures are implemented * Proper reporting on audits and ensuring that required corrective actions are implemented * Reporting to the Audit Committee on the internal audit plan, investigations, risk assessments and other ad-hoc assignments * Liaising with external auditors * Overseeing and providing quality control on audits done by the Department ensuring that professional standards are maintained at all times * Issuing final audit reports with agreed recommendations and signing off by the auditee * Building relationships with managers across the company to understand issues and risk areas.
The following key attributes are required from the ideal candidate: A CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) * A CA or equivalent with eight years post articles experience *Relevant accounting and auditing experience at managerial level in the Passenger Transport Industry or similar industry will be an advantage * Excellent interpersonal skills is required for interaction with senior management and the board and thus needs to demonstrate the right attributes and skill for the position * Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) *Integrity, independence and objectivity and the ability to partner within the organisation to add value to its operations * Exceptional business administration skills, sound business acumen and ability to manage complex projects.
This position will involve a fair amount of travelling.
