Job Description

Coordination of health and safety systems for the company, identification of hazards and assessment of risks to health and safety, implementation and adoption of appropriate safety controls in place, provision of expert advice on accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees

Key Responsibilities

• Promote occupational health and safety and develop safer and healthier ways of working
• Inspect and test machinery and equipment, and operational devices to make sure they meet safety regulations
• Ensure that all required PPE is being used in line with regulations
• Ensure appropriate and correct storage of hazardous material and dangerous equipment
• Identify and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards and implement appropriate control measures
• Ensure awareness and compliance to all legislation in relation to the use of plant, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities
• Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action
• Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and relevant legislation
• Assist with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries and ensure that they experience a timeous and safe return to work
• Coordinate emergency procedures, rescues, fire-fighting and first aid crews
• Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of the occupational health and safety program
• Develop occupational health and safety systems, including policies, procedures and manuals.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelors in relevant industry is preferable
• Safety training courses e.g. SHE-Q, Safety Representative, Advanced Safety Representative and/or advanced SAMTREC.
