Online Writer – Zambia/Botswana/Zimbabwe

Location: Randburg, JHB
Salary: R15k – R22k per month negotiable
Duration: 4 month maternity contract – November to Feb

Purpose of the Role:
The successful candidate will be given the task of preparing content for online platforms and needs a solid understanding of Zambian culture and/or Botswana/Zimbabwe culture. The ideal candidate needs to have knowledge of website content publishing and have a broad understanding of social media platforms. The candidate must also have a key interest and understanding of South African and International mainstream television, especially Afrikaans programming, and must be prepared to work flexible hours and have a passionate learning attitude.

Requirements:
3 years online and social media publishing
Strong knowledge/experience of Zambian and/or Botswana/Zimbabwean culture is essential
Qualification and experience in journalism and / or online media publishing required
Experience / training in the television broadcast environment an advantage
Computer literate, experience with Apple Mac and advanced MS Office software skills
Experience with image editing software an advantage
Experience with website content management tools needed
Familiar with online and social media tools and platforms and publishing in a professional environment (i.e. Websites, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google Plus, Vine etc.)
Skilled in running online and social campaigns
Needs to be familiar with Afrikaans South African and international mainstream television entertainment
Able to cover events doing live social media engagement from the event.
Must pay attention to detail, be able to work under pressure, be pragmatic, disciplined, driven, solutions-orientated and have a passionate learning attitude
The position advertised is on an annual contract basis
Candidate must be prepared to work flexible hours, after 17:00 and weekends
Own transport an advantage

Duties:
Write engaging copy demonstrating the ability to translate broadcast events into news and feature articles
Write various content types such as website copy, articles, headlines, image captions, video abstracts etc.
Maintain and create original content for website and online platforms
Upload, publish and promote content on the online and social platforms
Researching, interviewing and sourcing information and news stories
Working with video team on content for online and social platforms, required to attend shoots where necessary
Coordinating and sourcing content
Reporting and analysis of stats and trends
Keep up to date with the latest social media trends and practices
Enhancing online and social media strategies and implementation
Cross-platform publishing with various CMS’s
Management of social communities
Required to be available for shifts including evening or weekends, project dependent
