Operations Manager Job Vacancy in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Duties

Manage the operation of production sites in a way that achieves an injury and incident-free performance which is in full compliance with environmental standards and protects the health and safety of the employees and community.
Plan, budget and manage plant operations to achieve on-time manufacturing output. Lead, develop and implement operating strategies incorporating globally accepted principles including Lean Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints and alike.
Be the primary driver of Manufacturing Excellence to develop, plan and implement needed change sand improvements in the organisation, procedures, equipment, processes and facilities to deliver upon manufacturing goals and continuous improvement thereby maintaining ISO9001 & 14001
accreditations.
Ensure quality of product meets the needs of the customer and commercial (sales & technical)
teams.
Obtain effective employee and industrial relations and communications to ensure consistency and
fairness throughout the operating units in a unionised environment.
Maintain manufacturing efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs by effectively reviewing and
directing the activities of key subordinates in the areas of safety, production, product quality,
planning and scheduling and maintenance.
Select, train and develop Production Leaders, Production Engineers & Technicians and staff in order to maintain a workforce capable of operating the process that meets all customer needs and
company goals to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the business.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience
Demonstrated leadership skills and cultural change agent.

Continuously contributing and improving overall plant(s) performance (effectiveness and efficiency) through KPI’s and effective coaching,mentoring, and training.
BSc. / MSc. Degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution is required.
12+ years of operations management experience required in a manufacturing or chemical plant
environment, preferably for that of a Major Hazardous Installation (MHI).
Proven record of managing a multidisciplinary team that includes: production managers,
maintenance manager / engineer, process engineer / technical and SHEQ manager.
Strong analytical and communication skills in order to effectively provide team briefings, conduct
meetings, write reports, deliver presentations and exchange information with all levels of the
organisation.
Must have in-depth knowledge of plant equipment function, maintenance technology as well as an
appreciation of engineering issues with a passionate desire to follow and implement the latest
technology and trends to meet continuous improvement objectives.
Demonstrated knowledge of operating and technical disciplines such as Process Safety Management
(PSM) and technical documentation (P&ID, HAZOP, Project Management, Production Scheduling,
etc.).
Demonstrated ability to scope, plan, prioritise and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive capital projects in excess of R50 million.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites (production & warehouse).
