? Conduct structured ward rounds and act on findings
? Accompany doctors during rounds, implement their prescription.
? Accurate and chronological record keeping on patient’s condition and progress
? Update of care plans as patient’s needs change.
? Timeous, accurate recording of incidents and complaints.
? Communication with the unit manager on any matter affecting patient care, security, doctor, staff relationship and stock control
? Function within standards and unit specific protocols and procedures
? Monitoring and adhering to group nursing policies
? Ensure that all units related activities are carried out within the framework of ethical and legal standards.
? Monitor and review patient documentation and maintain stationery master file.
? Monthly audits on nursing and patient related documentation in accordance with professional and ethical standards
? Management of the entire ward
? Duty rosters to ensure skill mix requirement is accurate
? To assume unit manager role when unit manager is absent.
? Reporting and managing of all incidents.
? Reduction of health care associated infections in the ward.
? Active participation during resuscitation in the ward.
? Reduce nursing related medication errors in the ward.
? Monitor disaster and contingency plans in the ward
? preparing and checking medications
? managing a baby’s fluids
? recording observations and documenting a baby’s care
? initiating appropriate basic resuscitation in an emergency situation.
? Report, investigate and discuss all negative and positive comments regarding the unit.
? Market nursing services within the specific unit
? Liaison with multi - disciplinary team members, treatment, nutrition, protocols and cost pertaining to quality management.
? Practice good telephone etiquette.
? You’ll also have an important role in supporting the parents of the baby at a time when they themselves are very anxious and stressed
? Exercise care and control over all equipment in use and report any malfunctioning.
? Ensure all stock used are correctly charged.
? Ensure that patient files are audited and submitted to the billing’s department timeously according to policy.
? Awareness of internal and external customers expectations and needs
? Regular consultation with all members of the multi - disciplinary team to improve standards.
? Awareness of community needs
? Keep management informed of happenings within the unit which could have potential media interest and impact on the hospital in a positive or negative light
? Motivate the staff to project a positive image of the unit and the company as a whole
? Participate in induction programme for new nursing personnel.

? Grade 12
? Minimum of three years’ experience.
? Trained in ICU with a Diploma / Degree in Paediatric Nursing
? Must be willing to work shifts.
? Strong customer orientation, team player, very energetic and well organized.
? Prior experience in a similar unit will be an advantage.
? Willingness to work shifts in accordance with the requirements of the unit.
? A post basic Diploma or Certificate in Critical Care Nursing Science will be an advantage.
? Competent in the demonstration and assessment of all clinical procedures and management of risks.
? Basic knowledge of stock control principles.
? The ability to identify and report near-misses and adverse events.
? Knowledge of clinical procedures, the Scientific Nursing Process and BCA bundles.
? A good understanding and application of the nursing scope of practice and knowledge of patient care.
? Be able to function as an effective member of the nursing team by facilitating team effectiveness.
? Displays a concern for excellence by following work routines and standards while achieving results.
