Purpose of Position:
Support manufacturing to improve effectiveness and cost of production processes through determinations regarding: methods (use of statistical tools), equipment, layout, workflow, time standards, capacity utilization, process/equipment improvements, and process control systems.
Discipline Description
Application of statistical and lean principles for process flow and process output improvements. Focus on cost reduction by driving improvements on OEE.
Comprehensive understanding of the entire production process from beginning to end (Discipline SME). The process engineer has a fundamental knowledge and understanding of all the equipment and processes and provides second level support to operations for problem solving and trouble shooting. Is aware of all the experiments taking place in the plant and knows all the related documentation relative to their area.
On-going Tasks
Proactively manages the interface with other Plants and Division Engineering to ensure standardization across similar equipment and processes to ensure optimum results.
Support Operations leadership with training effectiveness and performance of operators.
Is knowledgeable about and active in the use of AME (actual manufacturing excellence) / audit / Performance Excellence Tools (Lean, Six Sigma and other process excellence tools) to improve the processes.
Develops, maintains and ‘lives’ by measure and display of key process variables and outputs that indicate the health of the process. (SPC, SOS, Audits, etc.)
Develops and trains operators and others on the process and on tools to control and improve the process, i.e. SPC, Pex
Organizes the process (documentation, work flows, area layout, staffing recommendations etc.) to insure maximum yields and best in class operational results.
Interacts with the process and operators daily. Specifically; discusses issues with operators and Operations leadership / shift supervisors and team leaders, has a mechanism to get operator feedback, knows who is performing above and below standard performance expectations and is aware of the impact this has on overall performance of the area.
Ongoing technical support for the area. Provides technical, process and system solutions to issues / problems. Communicates the solutions and provides necessary training as appropriate
Develops strong relationships with shift supervisors and team leaders. Develops mechanisms and processes to keep each other informed of issues that relate to the process area. Interactive, 2-way dialogue to support each other’s activities within the process area.
Measurements SME for both LDS and LDF manufacturing processes
Any other duty which may be assigned from time to time
Project Tasks
Suggest, develop, evaluate and if approved implement continuous improvement projects

Required Experience and Qualifications
Qualified Industrial Engineer
Extensive manufacturing process experience applying statistics and lean tools for process improvement
Must possess technical curiosity
Experience in process excellence tools, including Six Sigma and Lean
Other
On call and standby coverage
Weekend team coverage per rotation
Additional extended hours, which may include weekends, when required to support startups, shutdown, experiments, etc.
