Product Actuary (Rest of Africa)
Sandton, Johannesburg

• Being the “design authority” (in conjunction with Capability Cluster partners - Service, IT, Customer Engagement and Marketing) of the end to end product solution with the aim of ensuring reuse across countries.
• Working with Rest of Africa central teams and CEOs for each business to determine the country-by-country product roll-out plan (including design, launch and maintenance requirements).
• Assisting importing countries develop the business case for the identified solutions and the operating model to be used.
• Assuming overall accountability for the South African element of each product project (for Rest of Africa businesses), along with managing the commitments to countries that already have an instance of the product.
• Owning the business planning process (for Rest of Africa product) where the product roll-out for the next 3 years is agreed with all Rest of Africa businesses. The needs of the SA businesses must also be incorporated.
• Ensuring that the relevant capabilities built for export, where appropriate, are also made available to the SA businesses.
• Clarifying business requirements and drilling into architecture of products and design with development teams.
• Continually reviewing, identifying and promoting best practices and opportunities for improvement to the processes and organisation based on observation and lessons learned.
• Developing and managing each project delivery and metrics.
• Owning multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
• Operating in a multi-located team environment and promoting collaboration among cross-functional teams.
• Facilitating work across organizational boundaries, building consensus with key stakeholders and organizational peers, and influencing change outside of immediate span of control.
• Clearly communicating business priorities and requirements to functional teams (e.g. product development, digital, IT).
• Developing and implementing a knowledge management programme for development of the product community across Rest of Africa.
• Be accountable for executing executive decisions, reporting on product roll-outs and product management plans, identifying skills gaps and initiating activities to close the gaps across product teams.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
• Qualified actuary.
• 10+ years of working experience in the financial services industry.
• Broad insurance and financial product knowledge - essential.
• A business qualification or commercial business experience will be advantageous.
• Strong working knowledge of systems, applications, business processes and operations for products will be an advantage.
• Must have operated at a senior management level.
• Frequent local and international travel.
• Very strong communicator and relationship builder with strong facilitation skills.
• Analytical problem solver.
• Experience in operating with multiple project teams.
• Experience in owning complex, multi-disciplined projects.
