Production Engineer
SCOPE
The Production Engineer must be equipped with a blend of technical expertise, operational understanding, and soft skills to thrive in the blow moulding industry. The incumbent will be accountable for a team of setters who maintain, and setup blow moulding equipment coupled to ancillary equipment (Conveyors, Cameras, collating tables, leak testers and mixing equipment) with the objective of producing plastic containers as cost effective and efficient as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that all employees reporting to the production engineer wear the required Personal Protective equipment.
Ensure that all employees reporting to the production engineer execute their tasks in a safe manner.
Ensuring all production equipment and processes comply with safety standards and regulations.
Supervise the blow moulding tool maintenance processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner.
Supervise the blow moulding tool installation and setup processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner.
Supervise the setup of ancillary equipment ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner.
Diagnosing problems in the tool maintenance and tool setup process providing recommendations and training.
Train senior and junior setters on the principles of tool setting.
Measure and optimize the tool changeover process.
Investigate and troubleshoot any problems that arise within the tool setup processes, and blow moulding machinery, and operations.
Set and achieve performance targets for the technical setter’s team.
Maintaining and calibrating technical equipment to ensure optimum performance.
Maintain and or create tool and part drawings for all products in the Greif | iPackChem Portfolio.
AUTHORITY
Apply discipline procedures when behaviours are not in line with prescribed iPackChem Maintenance protocols.
Perform monthly performance reviews on team reporting to the production engineer.
Create purchase requisitions.
Determine the need for overtime.
Instruct visitors, contractors and/or employees to leave the premises of the plant if work and/or behaviour does not align with iPackChem Safety and Health Policies and Procedures.
Approve and decline leave for sub-ordinates.
Assign and manage standby roster.
Receive stock from venders and sign off delivery notes and invoices.
Update and approve product drawings.
Update and approve mould drawings.
Update and approve type test documents.
Update and approve engineering changes
INTERRELATIONSHIP
Reports to the HSE & Technical Manager.
EDUCATION
Degree in engineering (Mechanical / Industrial Eng.)
Minimum Grade 12 Certificate with Mathematics and Science as major subjects.
Must be able to Read, Write and Speak English.
Must be computer literate (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Must be able to use SPC + Automated QC Data recording tools.
Valid Code 10 Drivers License.
CAD Competent – SolidWorks, Catia, Solid Edge or other related 3D Cad drawing package.
TRAINING
Blow Moulding fundamentals.
Leadership Fundamentals.
FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis.
Root Cause Analysis – Or other problem-solving capability.
SKILLS
Deep understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and the operation of blow moulding machinery and equipment.
Proven Problem-Solving Track record.
Project Management - oversee projects from conception to completion.
Adept in process optimization to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
Maintaining high-quality standards for the maintenance of Blow Moulding Tools and Equipment.
