Job Description:

• Delivers comprehensive and quality patient care to meet the health needs of patients
• Always adheres to patients’ rights
• Prevents, reports and manages medico-legal risks to ensure patient safety
• Conducts comprehensive patient care audits
• Patient records and registers meet company standards and legal requirements
• Control of stock and equipment according to client’s policy
• Executes duties and responsibilities according to scope of practice
• Ensures a therapeutic and safe patient environment by maintaining health and safety standards and complying with infection prevention and control policies

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse
• 6 - 8 months post-qualification hospital experience
• Prior scrubbing experience essential
• An additional qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science will be advantageous
• Ability to identify, prevent and report medico-legal risks and adverse events within the unit
• Competent in the demonstration and assessment of clinical procedures and management of risks
• Sound knowledge of the Scientific Nursing Process and Best Care Always (BCA) bundles
• A good understanding and application of the nursing scope of practice and patient care
• Sound knowledge and application of relevant Theatre and CSSD policies and procedures
• Management of surgical equipment and instruments
• Be able to function as an effective member of the nursing team by facilitating team effectiveness
• Maintains respectful work relationships and interpersonal effectiveness
• Displays a concern for excellence by following work routines and standards while achieving results
• Ability to display sound judgement in problem-solving
• Maintains a client/patient-focused mindset
• Exhibits full responsibility for own work outputs

Experience & Qualification:

• Registration with SANC as a registered nurse
• Relevant qualification and 2 years’ experience in specialist area
• Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite)
• Flexible working hours/shifts
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
