Profit and Loss Analyst, Braamfontein, JHB | R28k – R30k, depending candidate’s relevant training, skills, and experience | Permanent Position

Duties / KPIs:

Monthly Analysis & Reporting

Review all GL accounts of each building in the assigned portfolio of buildings for completeness
Escalate required monthly capturing with Financial Accountants to ensure timeous period closure;
Investigations into ledger allocations
Reporting errors to Financial Accountants
Follow up and ensure corrections are resolved and completed
Package Income Statements (“P&L”) statements for each individual building in the assigned portfolio in the required reporting format.
Ensure the correctness of data captured in the in each building P&L statement through regular engagement with the relevant members of the Finance Department;
Review and analyze the P&L performance of each individual building in the assigned portfolio through:
A comparative review of each individual Income and Expenditure item in the monthly P& L statement in order to identify variances relative to the approved budget;
Investigate and solicit input from the Marketing & Sales, Facilities Management, Student Administration & Finance departments in order to establish a well –informed understating of the captured P&L data and reasons for variances to approved budget;
Review and compare prevailing procurement practices with the approved Procurement Policy provisions and provide commentary to the extent that it informs variations in Cost data relative to approved budgets;
Prepare a regular P&L performance report which will form and part of the Asset Management reports to be prepared on a regular basis;
Continually engage with the Asset Manager in order to:
Stay well-informed about underlying portfolio performance drivers currently under scrutiny in order to tailor reporting outputs accordingly;

Historical Benchmarking & Trend Analysis

Prepare and maintain a historical dataset of P&L statements;
Review and analyze the historic dataset for the purpose of identifying and tracking Income & Expenditure performance trends as informed by various departmental and stakeholder requirements;
Analyze the historic dataset for the purpose of establishing Income & Expenditure performance benchmarks for the assigned portfolio of buildings;
Quarterly and/ or Annual “Benchmark Variance” reports are to the prepared on the basis of this activity.
Track conventional and develop novel performance ratios which provide critical insights for purposes in comparative building performance analysis;

Budget Preparation

Develop a medium-term (3 years) forecast budgetary framework which will inform the preparation and approval of budgets on an annual basis;
Assist in the preparation and approval of annual operating budgets for the assigned portfolio of buildings;
Assist in the preparation of relevant annual Capital Expenditure budget proposal ( on a building-specific basis) by informing the motivation of these proposals with P&L commentary ;
Prepare forecast building budgets (to year-end) based on Year-to-Date Income & Expenditure performance;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Matric
Degree B. Com Accounting / Financial Management / Property Studies
Post - Graduate degree will be an advantage

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

At least 5 years in a similar position
Verbal and Written Communication Skills
Computer Literate
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel Knowledge & Skills
Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Word Knowledge & Skills
Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint Knowledge & Skills
Oracle knowledge will be beneficial
