JOB TITLE: PROJECT DIRECTOR

Scope/perimeter/area of influence South Africa
Job purpose To lead a multi-disciplinary team through formulating a macro project plan and overseeing implementation towards construction of a plant within set timelines, through:
• facilitating compilation of a detailed project schedule,
• securing relevant licences and permits,
• identifying and delivering required resources,
• compilation of a budget and managing expenditure,
• negotiating contracts with architects, vendors and contractors,
• monitoring implementation for quality and compliance to timelines,
• proactively identifying risks and resolving matters that arise
• managing project personnel and ensure employee productivity
• implementing & maintaining relevant standards and ensuring compliance to all regulatory requirements related to plant construction

Key/Main responsibility areas
• Project Management
- Lead the formulation of detailed project plans, oversee implementation of all project phases, monitor and track, and ensure delivery on timelines.
- Facilitate tendering process, and execute on approval
- Co-design and review contracts with relevant stakeholders, monitor execution and ensure delivery on specifications/contract terms and conditions/service level agreements
- Ensure safety on site and compliance to all EHS related requirements
- Perform administration tasks related to tender specification, budgets, motivations, reporting, document control and filing

• Budget/Timeline setting, management and forecasting
- Facilitate assessment of budgetary requirements and compile budget
- Manage expenses and ensure budget is up to date on a weekly actual basis
- Ensure timely identification of variances to budget and additional budgets are submitted timeously.
- Have oversight and proactive thought in planning for future project legs to deliver project on time and on budget.

• Governance and Compliance
- Ensure securing of all relevant licences and permits
- Lead the compliance and adherence to all construction regulatory legislation (including 3rd party construction teams)
• People Management
- Ensure all people management processes are executed according to Company Project Management Procedures
- Build strong internal and external relationships, displaying excellent abilities to initiate strategic dialogue


• Risk Management
- Understand and evaluate project risks, and develop and implement action plans and mitigation strategies timeously, to avoid delays.

Qualifications & experience required
Qualifications
• BEng or equivalent degree
• Management development programme will be an added advantage
• Accreditation with the Project Management Institute will be an added advantage

Experience
• 10+ years’ experience in a project manager role leading large technical greenfield development in established firms
• Processing and/or manufacturing experience is preferred
• Working experience in Africa is preferred
