Position details:
Reports to: Project Director.
Primary purpose: To successfully manage and construct small, medium and large brownfield projects (rebuild optimization initiatives/strategic improvements), in the mining environment with a special focus on metal furnaces.
Travel requirements: Will be required to travel (site 150 to 330 km from Johannesburg) and remain on site during the week (2 to 4 days per week). At times, be prepared to work on project sites on a fulltime basis during the construction, commissioning and plant production phases.

Job description / core competencies:

Manage engineering projects through all the different process groups, taking special note of the 10 knowledge areas of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), from initiation (scoping), planning (feasibility/ project approval), execution (engineering, design, drawings, procurement, contract management, construction, cold/hot commissioning), monitor & control to optimization and close out (project hand-over).
Manage and compile various concept, pre-feasibility & feasibility studies.
Placing a strong emphasis on safety/ risk and variance management.
Involved with the procurement activities and monitor the fabrication, erection and commissioning of the design team’s designs.
Ensure compliance with construction regulations and maximises efficiencies during construction.
Ensure that all designs incorporate client’s experiences and requirements for operating their plants.
Develop the proposed projects’ procurement and contracting strategy, prepare the project-specific procurement plan, manpower resource plan and produce the project schedule to facilitate the preparation and management of the project budget or capital cost estimate. Project controls.
Provide the required project co-ordination and management of the cost and schedule milestone achievement information to provide un-fragmented, coherent project progress measurement and actions in order to ensure the desired project outcome.
Provide your clients with Project Management Services of the highest quality through the employment of latest technologies and the engagement of expert personnel.
Utilise advanced software and principles in the production of optimized, high quality and cost effective designs.
Emphasize teamwork and close co-operation with the client and their partners in the execution of every phase of the project life cycle.
Exercise unqualified adherence to client’s corporate governance in the procurement and contracting of materials, equipment and construction management.
Design and engineer process plants that minimise the expenditure of capital and maximise the return on investment, adding value through innovation and experience.
Maintain sound Safety standards throughout all aspects of the business in line with client and statutory requirements.
Sustain environmental resource management principles and devise innovative methods to provide cost effective solutions to environmental problems.
Integrate safety and environmental awareness into our work ethic in the engineering, design and project management fields.

Job Qualification & Experience:
A dynamic and highly motivated self-starter, with the ability to retain focus to accomplish various goals with optimum efficiency.
Equipped with excellent managerial and leadership skills, including risk and conflict management.
10 years of experience from graduation. Ideal discipline: Mechanical.
5 years of experience in furnace and project management.
Mechanical and Structural Engineering experience; additionally, electrical and instrumentation experience advantageous.
The ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Subscribe to the management style of leading by example.
